Hey that guitar your selling in the classifieds...for $2k

Musician's Friend did a blowout sale on Rics a few years ago. I got a couple at a great discount but so did many others who weren't really into Rics which are my main / favorite guitars.

I'm not selling any of my Rics so no worries for me. Rics are about as far away from PRS as possible (except maybe Gretsch) i.e., I'm not a PRS person. :D

IMO

I don't see anywhere in the OP that the poster thought the seller had bought at the discount and is now flipping it.

My first impression of this thread was that someone who had been asking top used selling price in the classifieds had been undercut by GC.

Informing the RT community of a recent change in the market is one thing...............assuming the seller got it for that price and in turn screwing over forum members is another. Just because you have a one-time trough in the market (i.e. a few guitars at an insanely low price) doesn't mean that becomes the new going rate.
Exactly.

Fair enough. All things are open to interpretation for sure.

I don't either. Its a knee jerk reaction. Like…I see you bought that guitar recently for $1400 and your trying to FUCK us here on Rig Talk, like we don't KNOW any better. HOW about you go FUCK yourself..kind of reaction. so I post...

I called someone out for something like that a while ago.. here and on multiple other forums. I can understand trying to get what you spent out of it, or maybe adding $100 because you know you'll be haggled down anyway. I saw some guy had my EXACT guitar that I struggled to sell for $400ish (he somehow got it from the guy I sold it to) try to sell it for $800. Like we don't know any better

On craigslist, who cares, but on a forum where you befriend people (even if it's only internet), it's kinda crappy.... Yeah joke and pal with me, then try and sell me something you bought cheap for double the price, Thanks buddy.

Its exactly like that in all markets.
House next to me.....started at $80K
........time....time....time....passed
Sold for $50K

Here is where it ties into this.

Dumb shit puts it up for sale on the "SALE BY OWNER" website for $75K

Well I hope he does well seeing it took almost 2 years to sell to his stupid ass for 50K

If you see something ya want. Don't be scared to make a offer. If they say NO! It's not gonna kill u. Ya never know they might say YES!!

When I first saw the GC PRS blowout thread I was wondering if some were going to buy them with the intent to flip (not that I'm implying that's the case mentioned here).

I'm all for free market but it is good knowing imo.

The 2 that I bought ain't going anywhere. I've played lots of PRS guitars and I think I got lucky because the 2 I got are just awesome.

When the PRS sale was announced I went to one of the local GC's and almost bought a Custom 22.

I told the sales kid I would buy it if they threw in a pack of strings because I prefer to do my own setups.

He said he had to talk to the manager and was gone for about 10 minutes. Came back and said the manager would not throw in a pack of strings to make the sale so I walked.

I would have bought those strings myself and gave them to you to make that sale, if I worked at GC.

While I do think it's impolite to buy something from someone and immediately flip it for profit on the same forum, one GC sale doesn't necessarily reflect the going rate for PRS guitars. Someone isn't 'fucking you over' if they don't pass on the savings. It's just business, and it's up to you to know the market.

So you walked on a deeply discounted guitar that you wanted over a $5 set of strings???

Yes, this is curious. It would seem you missed out here, not the store. They will no doubt get their deeply discounted asking price from another buyer...

Yes I realize that it just bugged me, and I could live without the guitar.

Understandable. I mean, if we bought everything we ever came across that was a good deal, where would we put it all?....

 , :poke: $5 strings deal breaker.... aayy, should have asked for 5% discount on the strings... and settle for 2 %..

You can't "Fuck someone" by selling them anything. Here's the price, it's for sale. Buyer says ok I want it. End of transaction. No one fucked.

If you don't like the price....DONT BUY THE MOTHERFUCKER.
If you like the price and want it.....you guessed it....BUY THE MOTHERFUCKER.

It's really that simple.

EDIT: No need to be as rude as I was.
