I'm going to get so much shit for this video... 6262 vs 5150

badass clip as usual Ola, they both sound great! If these tracks had any post work, were identical settings used, or did you post eq them to sound closer? That is ridiculous how close they are! I didn't think the Bugeras could get that close. I'm not sure I could tell a difference if I wasn't watching the vid.

I almost don't like watching your vids anymore man, as a guy that likes to play metal, I get serious g.a.s. pains everytime I open one of your threads. I can't help it though, you kick too much ass. Now I'm interested in hearing a Magician, lol.

So what do YOU think? :D

Actually, in the room, the Bugera sounded better

But both delivered surely... For the road I would probably go for the 5150 but if it was just sitting at home for recording and play for fun it's hard to justify the difference in price between the two(even though peavey has dropped their prices for the 6505).

Wow sounds the same  Hey ola, after doing this shoot out what is your opinion on the bugera?

I was pleasantly surprised. Did not think it would sound good. So now I'm really looking forward trying out the Trirec...

I was so set on being funny that I forgot say I also think both sound great. As usual :)
I've heard a few clips of Bugeras that sound really good, but like you say, it might not be the most solid built amp in the world :D

My band recorded two promo songs with a Bugera 6262 and a Diezel Herbert, the Bugera didn't sound bad at all!
The only problem I have with the amp that it's quite noisy.

I would rather spend a few extra dollars to get the real deal from a company who's invested time designing an amplifier than to get a knockoff from a company who can't do anything for themselves.

+1.

Bugera can eat shit and die like the dogs they are. Fuck them and the design stealing crap they make. It is the same as bands that come out with a great CD and then it gets pirated and they make no money and can't make a living off a 'platinum' CD. As musicians, people that actually are getting fucked by illegal copies of your work, this does not seem wrong? Just curious.

Not that I have an opinion on it...

I don't think that you should get any shit at all. The whole premise of Bugera is that they copy other peoples designs and they have them made cheaper and sell them cheaper.
I hate to say this but when I was at the NY amp show, I thought there clones sounded pretty good. Im not sure it they have any reliability issues but if you need a bang for the buck amp, id look there or Jet City.

Another thing I hate to say is that I think that all this outsourcing is going to be our undoing and it's going to make building amplifiers for future up and comming builders harder because it's going to be tough to compete pricewise. hell, I'm actually seeing this happen now.

Here is the Bugera only video(one coming for Peavey next week)

You can see the American builders trying to catch up to the small wattage amps like the Tiny Terror and Night Train etc. but what they offer is 2-3 times as much cost for a different tone, not necessarily a better one. For eg. the Bogner Brixton sounds great but for $1300 I could buy 2-3 Nightrains or Tiny Terrors (depending on deal of course) and those guys sound great too. It really puts to rest PTP vs. pcb as well when these pcb Asian made amps sound so good. FWIW if I got to play a Brixton or similar American amp in person and it nailed the sound in my head I would pay for it. I've played a Bugera 6262 and would take a 6505 over it.

Ola, I'd forgotten how bad ass the old Machinehead was, thanks for the reminder. Hearing Old coming on the radio when it first came out in '94? influenced me a lot on how metal could sound moving forward. Especially the harmonic accents they used a lot in the middle of riffs. It was a good time to be 24 and hungry to play something heavy and new.

Ola this tune totally rules! How did you record? (2)57s? Preamp? ADA? Direct w/ cab sims?

Thanks a lot!!!

Like I always do. One left, one right channel. A fat bass guitar to go with.

Signal chain:
Ibanez RGD2120—-Bugera 6262—MesaBoogie Roadster 2x12—SM57—Apogee One—Logic 9.

Apogee Logic & Mac...damn, I've been thinking PC vs Mac

Yeah, c'mon man, don't hold back... We're all adults here.

Ola, thanks for the tutorial pointers on your site. Awesome info!!

I would like to point out the fact that the majority of all amp-companies started off copying other peoples designs to a certain degree. What was the first Marshall? A Bassman-clone. And what about Mesa Boogie? A Fender Princeton.

True, but at least they wre tweaked versions that also cosmetically looked different. The Bugera stuff is pretty much an Asian made duplicate. But no-one ever complained about Behringer's (owners of Bugera?) mixers being exactly like Mackie at half the price either :D

It's always up to the individual to see where the value is for them. Let the copies be made, if the originals are truly superior they'll be OK. Hell, if when I was first starting to play in bands I could buy a rippin' copy of an amp I couldn't afford, which was most brand names, I'd have been all over it. Prices are up while wages have stagnated or declined in relation to inflation. Thanks to wonderful economic and trade policies over the last 30 years, here we are
