Kirk Hammett is finally getting signature pickups

I'm a huge Metallica fan but don't understand Kirk having his own EMG, especially in that band. James' tone and right hand are why the EMG-81 is so huge. It is not like Slash and Izzy in GnR, with two different guitar tones that blend.

As far as Kirk goes, I think people are too hard on the guy. He is not the fluid player he once was and leans too much on the wah, etc. but I really think that has come with him having a family and tons of other interests. He doesn't just play guitar for the majority of his day and has a life. There was a time when Kirk Hammett was mentioned along with all of the other guitar heroes out there. Anyone who denies that didn't grow up in the 80s.

no... he's pretty shitty and does have no vibrato. This is all true but it is also very obvious that it almost no longer needs to be said. That said, nobody can fault Kirk on his work up to AJFA. Vibrato was always lacking but he put together some pretty cool phrased solos in those times that fit the song and were shreddy in nature. For that, I am able to let the old man just have his fun on stage now and mail it in because i have not felt the need to buy a ticket to a Metallica concert in over 10 years.

Agreed.. I can appreciate his early body of work but I don't lose sleep over him being lost on stage at times or just wanking on a wah. People still go to the show so ..

Kirkless lost anything he ever had in the tank before AJFA and James carried those dudes through that whole period and ever since. Kirk is a weakling and so is anyone who stands in line waiting for a signature line of anything with his name on it.
