Marshall 1959BJA Billie Joe Armstrong Demo

So you prefer tgp green to black?
That bright-ass surf green or whatever?

Hell yeah, brother. The only amp I've got left is purple. Next one I order from that builder will be bubble gum pink tolex.

I'm not worried about impressing Rig Talk or some 65-year old purist with my amp colours, I want my young kids to see them and think "Dad's amp looks fun"

I'll just say, I wonder why BJA stopped using the Bradshaw 59 later on. I think he might have used it on Insomniac, but not sure why he stopped using it. Clearly his tone changed a lot later on and it was not the same Plexi he used on Dookie. I read somewhere that Tim Armstrong of Rancid borrowed that amp to record some of And Out Come the Wolves. Rancid was a fun band as well, at least to me, and the former band Operation Ivy were a huge influence on Green Day in the early days.

Supposedly the Golub/Suhr crunch mod is very similar to a 2203 but various cap/resistor values differ, so the gain and tone end up different.

Had a Golub dookie modded 1959. Compared to a 2203, I’d say it’s a little gainier, more opened up (less mids, bigger lows and highs), and a bit softer sounding/feeling. I thought it was a really good modded Marshall. Not a fire breather - just a nicely done mod without any of the weird drawbacks you get from a lot of modded marshalls. Great feel and no weird EQ stuff happening - sounded very natural

Cool.

I have purple, silver(gray), blue, and black amps.

So I get it.

Greenday is one of the few bands keeping young people interested in rock guitar. Also the dookie tone is pretty well regarded and now that Golub is dead this seems like a good option. I like em, saw em 2 years ago and they were fucking incredible live.
They're a badass live band and their alt project The Coverups is smoking too.

They are great. I was like 13 when dookie came out and loved em. Took my 16 year old daughter to see em for her 1st show on their last tour as they are still popular with kids and was blown away at how good they were live. Dude was moving like he was 20 years old still. My wife and i still joke about what pills he must be taking.

It was cool to see em do the entire dookie album, really took me back man. I have listened to the cover ups and its cool cause its so different. Dude can write a melody for sure. When I first took guitar lessons I wanted to shred my own solos and would improv over their records cause the progressions were easy to catch on to. I got no hate for em or this amp. I don't think it sounds as good as the golub modded marshall though.

Does the world or any player need a 4k amp to get the Dookie tone? Does anyone want to spend 4k to get that amp?

I think that amp sounded good. I also do not understand the wild polarizing hate reactions on this guy or this amp. Jeez. It is just an amp. Don't let it ruin your day.

For some it’s no doubt because he’s got a big fucking mouth and is convinced everyone wants his advice on who to vote for.

For me it’s because other than a couple songs off the first album, I think his songs are lame. And the big thing is he just isn’t a good guitar player and it’s yet another example of a manufacturer trying to cash in on an artist’s name with a mediocre at best product that has a hefty price tag.

From my perspective, it's not about the band or player. Props to BJA for getting the deal. It's the $$$$'s and ability for people to already get that sound without breaking the bank. It's not like it's a rare mod.

im sure there are endless amount of dudes who picked up a guitar in the 90s as a teenager because of Green Day who are ready to kick off their mid-life crisis with a shiny new BJA Marshall half stack, im sure Marshall knows this too.
