NAD: Fortin Evil Pumpkin

Shuguang is the manufacturer.

What I've gathered is PM relabels tubes. Ruby also relabels tubes. However Ruby is the only company I've ever seen with their name on the BHT tube, which is manufactured in China by the same company who manufacturers the STR. And the tube in this amp is 100% identical to the BHT from what I can tell. The middle two are STR. The outer two are BHT, relabeled as 6CA7 for some silly reason.

EDIT:
You know what... I wonder if they did this because Jason was running BSTR and BHT combo in his original modded Marshall the Evil Pumpkin is supposed to based on. Like he ran mismatched tubes so Fortin just decided to duplicate that in the production model for shits and giggles.

That sounds like you're onto something.

Sounds like PM labeled it wrong though.

So it's really running a bunch of EL34s?

The original was 6550s and EL34s... I suspect Fortin did this so he could still say it was running "mixed tubes" without the additional production costs of using 6550s...

EDIT: it didn't embed the pic of the tubes so here it is

The old thread where Jason first got the Hulk-modded Fortin is over here

Congrats @FourT6and2

The other problem IMO is that it didn’t sound as visceral as the one off modded Marshall he built for @killertone decades ago.
I was just watching that video over the weekend - randomly popped up. Great story and the dude has killer riffs.

In the interest of fairness/equal time...

You sure have the skills. What app are you using?

The "6CA7" might be this:

Never seen it before. As far as I knew, the only modern production tubes labeled as 6CA7 were JJ, EH, big bottle PSVANE, and big bottle Shuguang (maybe the same). But these PM-labeled tubes don't look like any of them.

And I don't think anybody has even tried those psvane or big bottle Shuguangs in a guitar amp.
The Shuguang ones can't take high plate voltage. I think they are for under 400V hifi amps. They instantly died in my Wizard and I had to return them.

She complained the entire time

She complained the entire time lol
Man, I gotta put some respect on your boss life game.

Go snowboarding, "Sorry sweetheart, man trip."

Buys awesome amp, I confident you didn't ask permission, but she just needed to know when it was time for pics.

Extra points for the Tool inspired profile name haha.

Also, I see you have a Super Hi in your sig. That's the Fortin design that has me drooling.

lol thanks man!

To be fair, she snowboards too. And I told her she's flying up next week so we can hit up the powder highway together. She didn't complain. ;)

killertone does still post here occasionally - maybe pm him and ask if he knows what's up with the toobz
I might ask him but I sent an email to Fortin. Maybe they'll reply. But ultimately, it doesn't really matter. I was just curious what tubes they were, not why they chose to use those instead of real 6CA7. Seeing Chinese EL34 labeled as 6CA7 threw me for a loop when I expected to see something else.

I have some EH 6CA7 I can put in there to see if it makes any real difference.

And those Chinese BHTs are great tubes. They handle higher screen voltage than most any other EL34. I'm actually looking for a quad of them for another amp that runs 515v on the screens. But they aren't made anymore.

Definitely does but for 4k and pretty much not available ever?

It was actually easier to get than a Randall Satan (which is probably quite similar). Those come up for sale even less. And when they do, sellers seem reluctant to ship for some reason. I tried to buy a Satan numerous times and each time the seller was terrified of shipping. There's a Satan 120 on Reverb right now though...

Heard a local band using the Satan live one night. Not sure if it was the 50w or 120w but it sounded killer.

Might as well ask Jason to demo the original amp/splawn orange marshall mega machine too...
