I get the impression that most of the people who say they hate them just are following what's popular. It's 'cool' to hate them. . .you're not supposed to like them, etc.

Those people are sheep. If you like it, so what?

Are you supposed to ONLY like the color blue? Is red too commercialized?

Same thing applies with fanboys, the two groups are completely interchangeable imo.

Nickelback is rock music for people who don't like rock music. Someone above said that Def Leppard is to blame for this genera of music, and I agree (although I live Pyromania and earlier). That said, they do what they do very well. It just happens to be totally lame.

Godsmack...now there's another disasterpiece...

LOL - When Godsmack first came out I was in a rap-rock band.
We stole the riffs from a couple Godsmack tunes and wrote raps over them!
Some of our best songs. I love Godsmack

I won't say that they suck. They're pretty good at what they do. I just so happen to HATE what they do with a passion. Chad's "I can't get this giant shit to pass through my asshole" voice and cliched beyond belief lyrics feel like 60 grit sandpaper on my ears every time I bother to hit the FM button on the car stereo. Seriously... is this guy such a MASSIVE WHORE that he can't say "let's take a break" here and there? He and his music is like Walmart. It's everywhere and lots of people love it. But that doesn't make it quality. 20-30 years after their creation, I can listen to an old Journey or Boston song and still hear a timeless classic that has stood the test of time. Is that POS "Rock Star" tune of Nickelback's gonna hang like that? I can only hope NOT!
I respect your opinion but define "quality" music.

It's like if someone says there favorite color is blue and someone tells them thats not a "quality" color.

Quality is subjective.

By "quality" I mean music that really stands the test of time. When I bother to listen to the radio any more, if Journey's "Don't Stop Believin" comes on I STILL sing along after all these years. My entire family sings along (including young kids).

Are there going to be a lot of people singing along with Nickelback songs 30 years from now? Are they even going to still be played on the radio (if such a thing still exists in 30 years)? It's doubtful. I won't say that Nickback is crap per se (Chad's constipated voice notwithstanding). But it friggin just gets old. REAL old.

Sure... Chad's laughing all the way to the bank and condom aisle in the drug store. Big deal. I always liked music (like the aforementioned Journey) for its own sake. I don't give a crap if 100 million chicks get wet panties over it, or whether 100 million guys want to go postal over it. I like what I like and I hate what I hate. And I friggin HATE Nickelback.

It's rock music.....

Most of us don't listen to rock music. But when I do, I can't stand all the whiney little bitch rock bands that are depressing singing about how terrible their lives are. That crap is bullshit.

Nickleback is a breath of fresh air when I listen to a local rock station, upbeat foot tapping rock music about drinking and women. THAT is rock!

RT is a cliquish crowd and fun to sit back and watch the posturing.

Seems like your the "king" of that crowd.

Yes, someone has to do it....might as well be me watching from afar.

Wow, the Hip!!! Now there's a blast from the past. Yeah, I'd take Nickelback over them any day.

I'm not a huge fan of Nickelback but I can appreciate what they do- and they're damn successful at it. I do like a few of their tunes and our bass players other band gets a great response every time they play a NB song. Thankfully we don't have to suffer through that LOL!

And um, bangin' amazing tail has EVERYTHING to do with rock & roll dude, Jeezus!!!

I can easily appreciate Nickelback.......

.....after listening to the Tragically Hip for any length of time. :bleh:

You Americans should be eternally gratefull that the music industry pushed Nickleback on you instead of "the Hip's" cliche, generic bar band indie drivel with an Elmer Fudd soundalike vocalist waxing ever so poetically about obscure Canadian trivia.

Compared to them, Nickleback rocks !

DONT FORGET CURLING!!! THE MOST EXCITING SPORT EVER INVENTED!

though i think thats from medieval europe or something, but brought to us VIA CANADA!! YES!!!!!!!
Sure, but in curling at least you have the risk of slipping on the ice and falling - which adds SOME element of danger to the sport.

What the fuck is golf?? And I know, I know...the US didn't invent golf, but I'm just saying, it's a completely fucked up "sport".

As for Pickleneck, I have nothing against them personally or professionally. They write music that gets airtime on the radio, and that's their schtick. I love Tool, AIC, Ministry, RHCP, Stones, and probably 100 other bands more than Pickleneck, but that doesn't make them bad. Personal preference, there's no right or wrong.

And this is how, you remind me of what I really am.

Bingo. Music can serve many purposes (emotional outlet, creativity, challenges, fun, or just entertainment going from point A to point B in your car). If the 'goal' is to create memorable, fun, pop rock music that resonates with the masses, then I'd say they have pretty high quality. What good is music with 4 time changes, brutal heavy tone, complex lyrics & melodies if you're trying to appeal to a wide audience? Nickelback excels in writing hit songs that are gobbled up by the masses, which in turn puts a LOT of money in their pockets. A LOT of people must really enjoy their songs as well, as evidenced by their concert attendance.

Most people who start a business want to see it grow and make money - this is all Nickelback is doing. So what if they aren't introspective loners who spend 20 hours a day practicing their modes and sweep picking -- maybe their just some dudes that are having fun playing music to packed amphitheaters and making a shitload of money?

Schon said the same of Journey. I did not like the radio friendly journey as much, hated ballads. I thought NS was a great player and liked the other projects. When he said straight out in an interview that his Journey music paid the bills, side projects were for less commercial self expression. That was honesty.

But this thread seems to be poking fun at haters.

Nickelback sucks, all the money out of the town they play in
And ya see, I can't STAND Journey. Seriously can't fuckin' stand 'em... That whiny ass voice of the singer, and the lame ass lyrics about wheels in the sky that keep spinnin' and any way I want it and don't stop believing that there's somebody crying now... All of it is utter tripe. Seriously. I'd happily listen to Pickledick over having to put up with that nutsack whimpering over-processed limp dick shiny shit music Journey put out.

Just sayin'

Why ya holdin back bro? We're all friends here

Sometimes singers and $ hunters will go all radio friendly. Look at what happened to Styx during the Roboto theatrical concerto concerts

Nickelback still sings about strippers, blow jobs, and pants around ankles. I can deal with them and although they are not my fav, I can deal with them any day over cookie monster vocals

So how is the amp hunting going? Have you set out bait. Laid out a stray Les Paul? Scented yourself with a hint of Strat maple neck? I'm sure an unsuspecting amp will come out to play....

I like a few of their tunes....mostly the more softer stuff.
"Photograph" is such a great tune for me.

Last concert I went to a few months ago.

My Darkest Days - pornstar dancing was the hit
Bush - new CD and a bunch of cool old songs
Seether - shitload of songs, one of my fav bands
Nickelback

Of all the bands Nickleback was the least excited to be there. They were still good, but I would never go see them again unless it was with my girls. The guitars kinda mushed together and no real leads. It was like a loud jukebox. Almost like they were phoning it in.

Seether brought it... Great effort and sound great lev.

Bush was the surprise. They were tight and just like the CD. of course the women freaked and there were a few flashers.

MDD was good, had like 4 songs.

After we got home, my wife mentioned they were the only let down. So no bashing, I give them props. But... Honestly I would rather pay to see some of the people on Rig Talk than NB.
