It started with:
Ace Frehley
Randy Rhoads

Then it moved to:
Jimi Hendrix
Jake E. Lee
Paul Gilbert

chris poland
alex skolnik
gary holt

and, there are alot of younger guys these days, in metal, that still inspire me to play better.

all the girls I couldnt bang because I was the bass player

actually it was andy timmons

For me, it was John Norum that made me want to play guitar. When i heard him play and heard him soloing, it totally blew my mind!

My other biggest influence is Dimebag, i remember hearing VDOP over 10years ago and thinking 'Holy shit i want to be able to play that way!!'

Forgot to add Hendrix to my list. I saw him in Jacksonville Fla winter of 1969. Great concert unreal playing in any day or time. And he kinda invented alot of what he was doing. Also saw the Allman Brothers early on in 69/70 when they were just pups and didn't have a name for themselves.

To actually pick up a guitar....Ace Frehley.

KISS Alive II. His solo on "Calling Dr. Love" blew me away. It still does to this day. I'd credit him for bugging the shit out of my parents for my first X-mas guitar in like '79. :D

To actually pick up a guitar, and try to figure out how to get "that sound"....George Lynch.

Back For The Attack's "Mr. Scary" & "Kiss Of Death". That sound did something for me that the VH albums didn't. I love that aggressive rhythm tone. I suddenly became obsessed with Amps. I'd credit him for me being such a gear whore today. :D

jimi and jimmy. besides, hard to get poonani playing the tuba or clarinet.

EVH - first really cool thing I heard when I was younger
Then I found out about AC-DC & Angus
Then I heard Hetfield on MOP and all was good :D

Alex Lifeson and Rush...To be honest, I was going to play bass but grabbed a guitar at a friends and was hooked.

Well, I'm 50 so I listened to the usual hard stuff bitd. You know Sabbath, Rush, Scorpions, UFO, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, etc. But after I got out of the Marine Corps in the early 80's I moved in with a guy that was into the newer thrashier stuff so I was all about Megadeth, Slayer, Exodus, Possessed, etc and then I was room mates with the two guitarist from Wehrmacht which was a very influential thrash band for Portland. Now I've come full circle. I really like Alex Lifeson, David Gilmour, and I really think that Dave Mustaine, as popular as Megadeth are, is really underrated. He blows the doors off of Kirk Hammett. And I really like Michael Schenker, Frank Marino, and Frank Zappa.

Ace Frehley, Angus Young, and EVH got me jonesing to play, but it was really Steve Clark, and Joe Elliot and spending a whole summer teaching myself the first two Def Leppard albums, note for note by ear.

tony iommi was my first , i spent countless hours listening to everything sabbath did and learning everything i could from them .then it was randy .. i was blown away
then maiden

Then Michael Schenker...

The biggest inspiration for me to want to pick up a guitar was (Please dont flame me!) Linda Rondstat's " Baby Your No Good". When I heard the guitar bridge I was floored! The guitar is clean and massive sounding and I guess it spoke to me somehow. Jimmy Page is still my number one player with Dimebag a close second.
