Rhett Schull...

Dude, you do LITERALLY NOTHING but post politics in OTC all day, every day, every second of every day :hys:

This has to be the least self-aware thing that has ever been said in the history of planet earth

Good news though! The main forum is full of people talking about GUITAR and there's relatively little POLITICS - if that's what you're looking for, perhaps you should spend more time in the main forum instead of spamming OTC all day
Good points well taken -

Good points well taken -

Everyone else takes breaks from OTC :dunno: That's why we segregated the politics into the one spot, I assume; so it's easy to avoid.

Either temporarily like I do from time to time, or permanently - some people don't wanna engage with the madhouse and I totally understand and respect it.

That way it's quarantined to the one spot and you can avoid it if desired

Yes i know and what im saying is the forum WAS about GUITAR, and now its full of ASSHOLES all about POLITICS..
HENCE 20 YRS AGO. I don't expect you to understand you wern't here 20 yrs ago.

Did you just forget you are in the main forum and not in your primary forum? OTC

NVMD - Dan already addressed

I guess I'm still holding on to the approach that a person's word means something until it doesn't. You've been around this place for a long time. People used to just start threads and ask questions and give opinions and advice. There wasn't the no video not real attitude. You just choose to believe what you wanted.
This a problematic dysfunction that the internet has created across all subjects. "If I don't see a video, it's not real". Wild. And pretty sad. People used to use critical thought to make decisions about information given. Now it's whatever the video is, is the ultimate truth.
It's also created too many inflated senses of self worth.
Ok,off my soap box. Carry on.

I'm somewhere in the same camp as you coming from the old forum days with no clips and you had to take people at their word. You still had to realize everything was opinion and take it all with a grain of salt. You had to use your brain, but could generally figure out who was legit, who had good opinions but didn't match your style, and who was completely full of shit. A lot of it had to do with trustworthiness over skill level. I still approach forums motly this way.

I think a lot of people's issues with geartubers tend to be they don't present themselves as trustworthy. When one [gear] is the best thing ever then week after week a different [gear] is the best ever, they lose credibility. THIS IS THE BEST GUITAR IN HISTORY!!!!.... brought to you by my good pals at Gibson.

I'm not going to land all the blame on the geartubers though. Much of the audience seems to have lost the ability to critically think. Geartubers are trying to make a living off this. Of course they're going to promote sponsored items. Of course they're going to make clickbait videos for views. Like it or not, it's become part of the game. Similar to the old forum days you need to use your brain. You need to figure out how to pick out those who have similar styles & tones as you and pick out the parts of their video that a relevant and ignore the rest.

I feel you dude and putting negative energy towards something is a waste of your energy, time and doesn't benefit anyone in any way. However, I see plenty of other YT'ers enjoying attention and success because they are entertaining and post good content without posting stupid click bait-y or demeaning titles on their videos. Those that do, I don't watch their content whatsoever. A simple fix if it bothers one so much.

With that said, it baffles me why people hate on Fluff, Pete Throne, and now fucking Euge Valovirta all of a sudden? People are bored and need to step away from the computer.

the faces and titles are just as bad with the youtubers in my other interests as well, what the deal is with youtube wanting all that ive never actually investigated, but i guess if you want your videos to get pushed thats what they want. i just look at it as a "hate the game, not the player" kind of deal. Theres plenty of dudes i find cringy, i cant stand that michael nielson dude that many others love, i just dont watch him lol.

There has definitely been times in the past on Rig Talk where a individual was buying a lot of gear. They posted a video and we all realized they can barely play.

The entire dynamics of the forum has changed over the years.

and to think how many of these people others took what they said seriously cause they had a picture of their amp collection 25 years ago before clips and youtube were a thing
