Rhett Schull...

I understand totally. I've just seen so much dumb shit that I don't believe much anymore. But I agree that people should use their "bullshit detector."
I guess I'm still holding on to the approach that a person's word means something until it doesn't. You've been around this place for a long time. People used to just start threads and ask questions and give opinions and advice. There wasn't the no video not real attitude. You just choose to believe what you wanted.
This a problematic dysfunction that the internet has created across all subjects. "If I don't see a video, it's not real". Wild. And pretty sad. People used to use critical thought to make decisions about information given. Now it's whatever the video is, is the ultimate truth.
It's also created too many inflated senses of self worth.
Ok,off my soap box. Carry on.

Agree Greg Koch is usually very good.

I think the comedy aspect of YouTube is often misunderstood.

The other guitarist in my group is a more well rounded player than myself but none of our gear choices carry much weight with each other. Two different good players will still end up using two very different rigs. You go on TGP and TDPRI and you'll get guys who can barely play at all making long winded posts about pedals and stuff....if anything the videos have shown just how retarded most forum gear banter is, lol. Fortunately rig talk is better than most in that regard except I don't play metal so it's still mostly useless to me.

I guess I don't know how I made it through the 80s and 90s without a "pimpfluencer" telling me what gear I should buy.

There has definitely been times in the past on Rig Talk where a individual was buying a lot of gear. They posted a video and we all realized they can barely play.

The entire dynamics of the forum has changed over the years.

I feel you dude and putting negative energy towards something is a waste of your energy, time and doesn't benefit anyone in any way. However, I see plenty of other YT'ers enjoying attention and success because they are entertaining and post good content without posting stupid click bait-y or demeaning titles on their videos. Those that do, I don't watch their content whatsoever. A simple fix if it bothers one so much.

With that said, it baffles me why people hate on Fluff, Pete Throne, and now fucking Euge Valovirta all of a sudden? People are bored and need to step away from the computer.
I used to kinda dislike Fluff, mostly because his name is dumb, I don't hate him though. Euge is a cool dude IMO. Pete Thorn? well I can tolerate his vids. He's very knowlegable.

Now you understand how useless TDPRI and TGP are to everyone on rig talk then :hys:

Yeah, when that happens, I don’t hate on them for not being good but I do get disappointed and frustrated when you finally get to hear a piece of gear that is uncommon and it’s by someone who can’t actually show you what it’s capable of.
I certainly try not to direct that frustration at them directly as it achieves nothing positive. Unfortunately it makes discussion pointless because they can’t contribute meaningfully on what the gear is like in person.

That being said, I would urge any beginner on the forum to rock out and just keep playing. Post vids if you want. If you present yourself as a beginner, everyone will get it. What’s more important is the love of guitar playing and making a ruckus spreads.

I don't get emotionally involved in the internet. I don't hate anyone.

I believe we all understand people can play at different levels. Many here can play better than me.
I mean the rare individual that is faking everything.

If your into gear I don't think ability is too important. We all started somewhere.

Yep that's the key. If you don't present yourself as the High Pontiff of the Duchy of Toan© no one will judge your skill level

In every single one of the cases where this has happened on rig talk that has been what happened

No one is gonna judge you if you are positive and normal and just a beginner on your guitar journey - the problems happen when you do guitar "stolen valor" and get into heated debates with people who do, very much know what they are talking about

Tell you what Thumpster. I knew you could play due to the various demos you posted thru the years. That being said I totally enjoyed your live Diezel VH 4 clips, to the point where I would love to own one.
Hey thanks Carl! Appreciate the kind words man.

My band has talked about doing our band practice live weekly.
YouTube, Facebook and a few others all at the same time. No script.

I was also recently asked to be involved in a reality show. Slightly scripted.

I believe the best way to make money is sell merchandise.

As for all these people mentioned in this thread on YouTube...I blocked all of them years ago. I don't watch any of it.
That sounds like engaging content and trying to spread the word about your band. Approved.

ha ha

Yeah, that's it exactly. Many of us have seen it several times.

20 yrs ago perhaps. Now, not at all.
Politics has destroyed all "rationale" about anything.

That comment was about guitar, not politics :dunno:

There's plenty of heated debates about gear that people have and are fine with
Yes i know and what im saying is the forum WAS about GUITAR, and now its full of ASSHOLES all about POLITICS..
HENCE 20 YRS AGO. I don't expect you to understand you wern't here 20 yrs ago.

Dude, you do LITERALLY NOTHING but post politics in OTC all day, every day, every second of every day :hys:

This has to be the least self-aware thing that has ever been said in the history of planet earth

Good news though! The main forum is full of people talking about GUITAR and there's relatively little POLITICS - if that's what you're looking for, perhaps you should spend more time in the main forum instead of spamming OTC all day

When Alex Lifeson goes "modeler" all hope is lost. :ROFLMAO:
Rik Emmitt was modeler too thats why Phil X was blowing him off stage.
