Someone please tell me what the deal is with Blackmachine?

First off, I want to say that the sound cloud clip of loomis' guitarist playing battery through a Blackmachine sounds below average. The tone sounds digital, like it is a cheap ibanez going through a metal zone pedal. The playing is tight though. If this is meant to some how show this guitar in a good light, it did the exact opposite. Loomis' tone on his video is inferior to his regular tone as well, faces and all.

That said, hearing that the builder of these guitars doesn't build guitars full time convinced me that this is a serious and sad case of internet hype. If is frankly insulting to full time guitar builders that the best among them is an part timer. I concede that he may be "talented" at building guitars, but this is akin to stating that the best guitarist is a part timer also who is an accountant on the side. Please.

When BM owners are described as a tight knit group, moving behind the scenes with other BM owners, because putting one up for sale publicly makes you an asshole, I makes me think of a cult. The group needs to be tight knit in order to keep their delusion alive. These guitars are worth whatever they are worth because of simple economics: supply and demand. Please don't make them out to be more than that.

Btw, I wouldn't sell my 1992 les paul standard for $20,000 either. Too much sentimental value for me. Does that mean that it is worth that?

Edit: never mind. This post isn't intelligent enough to justify a response.

Other than you have something that most people can't afford....I would like to hear what people that own them think are really better about them than say a Tom Anderson, ESP custom shop or a Suhr?

REALLY different. Not trying to sound like a dick at all, promise! A blackmachine is unique. That's why people want them. They truly don't compare in many ways to those guitars.

I am not trying to be a dick either, but if there are non comparable reasons it shouldn't be too hard to list some ?

I see Blackmachine guitars like I see Fortin amps. Very few made, and too many people want one but probably never will. If a Fortin Natas or Meathead went up for sale, I'm sure it would get 2 to 3 times more then what it cost originally and probably go fast.

It may be "the best guitar" or whatever but we all know the best still gets boring after awhile and we want to move on. I mean the guys in love with Blackmachine on here can't even keep some guitars for more than a day.

On the bright side, it does look like you can buy a Blackmachine T-shirt. Join the club the cheap way.

I'd be interested to see how much it would cost to have, say, Paul Reed Smith himself build a guitar for a customer entirely by hand out of exotic woods. I think you'd have to pay disgusting, laughable amounts of money for one.

The inflated price of an existing BM is really the owner's willingness to give up an exceptionally rare & well-made custom guitar that they will never be able to get their hands on again.

There are millions of exceptional guitars out there. BM guitars are certainly up there with the very best in the world. If you play one, it's difficult not to wish you had one. I certainly regret not putting my name down for one back in the day.

It might be a good instrument, but anybody who's spending 15-20k on an instrument that isn't a historical piece is a chump in my book. I can't imagine why the builder quit when his guitars are fetching five digits. He was supposed to start mass-producing them. What's going to happen to those custom pieces if that happens?

He never had plans to mass produce, only to put out B6 models with Feline.

Also, he quit because this isn't his full time job, he works in engineering if I recall correctly. He only builds guitars when he wants to, its art, you cant force it. :)

I know guys who have offered WAY more than $20,000 for a CS build and not even received a response, its not about the money with Doug. He is someone who truly enjoys luthiery.

thats floored logic, price is never an indication of quality.

Do I think that any guitar is worth more than 5k? Hell no. I don't give a damn if god came down to earth and built it himself.

I think 20k for any guitar is complete horseshit.

wow, the sheer amount of hater-ism on this thread is astronomical. ive been intrigued by BM guitars for years now, although they are way too expensive for my budget. im not gonna piss on someone for paying what they believe is the fair value of any instrument.

kudos to those who CAN afford them. although i gotta say, im quite surprised at the BM hate, ive always considered this to be a cork-sniffing forum. hahaha. most of the topics here focus on high priced items.

I'm surprised too, I always thought the crowd here was more mature than other places. Do the same people criticizing BMs get mad when someone buys a nice watch, neat car or a badasss boat?

I think it's partly to do with certain modern math-metal guitar player/producers from Maryland owning one. Presumably it makes it uncool to own a BM now out of contrived non-conformity.
