Their ads in the '70's caught my attention as a young teen...  I believe they were a high-end guitar maker back then...before Korea, China, etc.

man, women back then were hot, before they started doing this whole size zero skeletal thing.

Chicks. I love boobies. stop losing weight. unless your fat then go ahead

used to be a fan, thought dimebag looked cool rocking one, he made it work. don't know how a mortal would look on stage at his local though

just had a look through the dean website though and was kind of shocked to find 29 variations on the "dimebag" guitars and that's not even including the ML's..

just seems to me to be cashing in on a dead guys name, most of them are just different paint jobs, and i'm pretty sure there wasn't that many before dimebag passed. So now they're just taking the shape and slapping a paintjob on it and calling it a "dime-whatever" or a razorback?

hope his family are getting royalties

They make an amp too, under Dime's name. I believe he practically sold his soul to Dean shortly before he died, and his family are getting alot of royalties.

Endoursement is a good source of income for big name musicians, you'll find alot of guitarrists will have any company make them a sig guitar, any company can make you a quallity guitar, with your own spec's any company can make you your dream guitar essentially.

What you'll find also (I love Micheal Amott for this) is guitarrists who are endoursed by an amp company, have two of their stacks up on stage and a 5150/recto/bogner in the back that's actually making their sound. I know of a few bands that do this.

I am uncontrolably drawn to the cheese, Ive tried to end it but to no avail. I have a Dean Cory Beaulieu signature model and I still love it. I switched out the pickups for some duncans and a new pot but aside from that Its really lightweight which I like and it plays fast as shit and very comfortable........and like I said I love how it looks and I know its cheesy but whatever.

actually, aside from it having the Trivium logo and such, it has a cool look, but I wouldn't consider buying one aside from those reasons because of the body and headstock.

I don't know if you guys are just being picky or what I don't know, as a serious Dime fan, and one since 1990, I've seen just about EVERYTHING with Dime's name on it.
I am a fan, you can call me whatever you want, but Dime was into being a business man way before he signed back with Dean, He had everything from guitars to cables to shirts to specialty picks and shot glasses. Plastering your name on any and everything is something he did way before he passed, Dime had tons of drawings and stuff he wrote about before he died that he wanted to do with Dean, according to Rita, and the rest all this has all been confirmed. Take it for what you will but this is no different now than when he was alive. And I think it was a killer deal he had going, Kids to everyone else could afford a piece of the Dime action. Nothin wrong with that.

Just sayin.

Peace

and R.I.P. Dime!

No I do agree with you, I said above that he sold his soul to Dean before he died, meaning they have the rights to his name and can make his signature guitars/amps/whatever and use his name.

I know a small amount about the drawings, the Dean Dime Steath I think is an example of this, released after his death. however I think Dean are milking it to the extreme. I agree with cheap import guitars so kids can get the same guitar as their idol essentially at a price they can afford.

:P My point behind the thread was not concerning Dime at all, Just that I don't particuarly like any of Dean's desings, especially the Dime ones now that I think about it. I plan to go into the local music store on the anniversery or his passing and blast cemetary gates. :) I love pantera, The first time I heard Dime's playing was in 2003 I think, Cowboys From Hell, I loved it, still do.

I love the Z (explorer) models, specifically the Black Gold Z.

I tried one back in 1980 something, some new model, maybe the ML. Anyways, some guys were gushing over it like they do over Charvel SoCals now.
So I played one for about 30 seconds and honestly it felt like a softball bat with frets.
Just this huge round neck, and it felt weird and plastic-y. I was an Ibanez guy at the time.
I have had no interest in anything Dean since then, except for the Vinnie Moore model that caught my eye with the maple neck.

i grew up with a guy that had a couple of dean ml guitars. so they don't seem like that much of an "abstract" body style to me. but they are a love 'em or hate 'em type of guitar body.

i love the dean ml and dimebag washburns. i own a couple of custom shop deans and some usa washy dimes. are they metal? yes. but they are not "trying" as hard to be metal as a moser bastard or the araknid. the body style has been around since 1978.

as for the headstock, i TOTALLY understand people not liking them. i have broken several of the dean/washburn headstocks off from enthusiasm and sheer stupidity. i really want one with a much smaller headstock.

and though i sometimes agree that dean really cashed in, it was rita who approved everything after his death. she has every right to do so. darrell did it while he was alive, she has the rights now. my major question is that since the dime thing is pretty much over, will dean be willing to pay the big bux to re-up the endorsement, or will they pass and let rita go back to washburn? i know there was real bad blood between darrell and washburn, but since washburn/usmusic changed hands from rudy to jam music, will that change rita's perception of washburn? a lot of the washburn fanatics are hoping so....

Marty?

You son of a bitch! I'm the opposite! I want the headstock fuckin bigger and bigger! who gives a shit if you pop em off! glue the fuckers back on and rip it! hahahaha!

i like their figured bubinga Vs other then that. . . .meh

I had a Cadillac back in the early/mid 80's with the smaller "shrimpfork" headstock...loved that guitar and would buy it back in a second.

I'm not a fan at all of anything they've done since their heyday though.
