Something about that guy's demeanor has been a bit off putting to me since I first noticed his channel. Maybe he's from New York? I don't know.

I like his videos. He seems to be honest and tell it like it is from what i’ve seen. Now, i haven’t watched every video of his either. But he seems legit to me.

The whole thing is bozo the clown land. He's upset that Sweetwater didn't do a power supply cap job or replace the screen resistors on a new, off-the shelf amp. That already is honk-honk territory. But what's more important is that Sweetwater provided a clear list of what they did, and those items were NOT ON THE LIST. If I had them mod an amp for me, and in addition to what they said they were going to do they did some other random shit, I'd be livid just on principle.

he’s always detecting fundamental issues in the way stock amp circuits are wired from the factory. fender or vox should send him their current amp line, pay him to go through them on video making corrections and improvements, and implement the practical upgrades in their factory builds.

i think it’s pretty funny how most of these yt amp guys have a deep disdain for working on boogies

I did have one of those orange capacitors fail in my Mesa amp that he mentioned in another video, but it happened 24 years after it was made. For an amp made in 1994, that's a pretty good run to not have issues. I also had a Friedman amp fail in the 2nd day once. You just never know with amps.

And really can't know. You have to have access to a statistically significant sample of amps and their full service histories before you can realistically draw quality conclusions. Only the manufacturer or maybe a major service center has any idea what's really going on with the reliability of a given amp design.

Isn’t that Lyle Caldwell? He was either here or at Hugeracksinc back in the day, posting regularly. I think he fell off or something happened where he wasn’t fulfilling mod orders, but I could be wrong

He said something about that on Tone Talk where he accepted a bunch of pre-orders and it didn't work out and he refunded people. I remember Jon at Throw Bak pickups said that he never accepts pre-orders because it usually leads to disaster later on. I think that's good general advice for small companies like that. I've seen it happen to lots of people in small businesses.

i love boogies but i can imagine trying to troubleshoot and repair one, particularly after others have done previous “work” on it, would be unpleasant

I like Lyle because he has a no nonsense approach about looking at amps, whether it's from the factory or a mod you know whether something is bullshit or not. I see the same thing in my line of work going through hundreds of guitars a month I start to see patterns with certain brands and it pisses me off to no end that they can't get it right.

i can sympathize with the idea that these guys are fixing enough amps from major manufacturers with the same problems to have earned the right to point out flaws in design and construction that:
1) should have never been mass produced that way by an amp company
2) should have been addressed and corrected in a revision to improve the designs and materials used

3rd party modifications could be arbitrarily bad. But other than that I really don't see anything about Mesas that's hard to work on other than there being a lot in a small space typically. I guess maybe coming from an industry where techs work on MUCH worse PCBAs all the time, I just don't have much sympathy.
I suspect a lot of it is people not using the authorized repair centers.
