That's awesome Brad. Any ideas yet where your going to be in New England?

Congrats. I think that's a great idea for you.

My wife and I threw around the idea of opening an "Amp & Fudge Shop"...I was going to sell music merch on one side and she was going to sell bakery items on the other.

I agree with all of Hunter's comments as well, but want to add the following:

Thinking of how bad the economy is right now more and more people are turning to the used market. That is my impression at least. Especially people who change gear a lot in search for the perfect tone. aka Rig Talkers.

I wish that you could also have a huge used gear selection of amps and guitars among other things of course, certified by King Guitar. They could sell at a premium but at least we potential buyers know they are up to par with what we expect. Cool photos and descriptions, no bullshit...

Another possible aproach which involves less risk is having people send you their stuff at the expense of possibly not selling their item. And you sell it for them after you verify it is in perfect working condition. You already have a name for yourself and that is very important. And you will act as an intermidiary with little to no risk. I speak as a buyer that sometimes the limiting factor is worrying about the risk of not getting the item as described or being conned by someone from ebay or an online forum....

My point is I would emphasis premium boutique gear but from the used market...

Congratulations on your new journey King Guitar!

Sounds amazing Brad......congratulations! Will be great to have you in the SoCal neighborhood! Oh yeah, feel free to contact me if you need a repair company! ;)

Hey Guys,

Not going to be located in California although I love it out there and visit every chance I get.

It will be East Coast based, you guys got Rob & Dave Friedman at Tone Merchants out there, my east coast brothers need a refuge.

At work - will add ideas when I can.. but regardless... good luck!!!!!!!

Very cool Brad. Good luck on the new venture!

Coolest thing I've seen in a gear shop recently was a demo room that was set up with backing tracks that you could play along with. There were a couple of different genres (jazz, blues, rock, metal) and each track let you select keys, rhythm guitar etc... Awesome because you got a chance to see how an amp sits in a mix better than just wanking along solo.

Congrats on the next step Brad! Sounds like it'll be a fun ride. I trust that King Guitar will be on hell of a cool place, but since people are throwing suggestions around here's mine:

Take the "store" vibe away by making it a place that's comfortable, yet professional. Nice couches, nice paint, etc... The coolest shop I've ever been in is Marc's Guitar Shop in Wausau, WI. It's built into an old house with hardwood floors and every room has a different vibe/theme going on. Acoustic and Bass rooms adjoining at an angle to the main room. Leads down a hallway to a huge pedal case with tons of rare and high end stomps and a wall of 412's stacked against the wall. Turn the corner and you're in the amp lounge. It has a comfortable couch, is dimly lit with cool pendant lighting and recessed cans, and it smells amazing! I don't know what they use in there, but it has this amazing clean and sweet smell that makes me want to spend thousands of dollars on gear!

Well hell....this makes perfect sense to me....you already have enough gear to stock it

I think the mix of vintage and modern, along with a couple of great basic rigs to test through, is the ticket.

A headswitching rig of some sort would be great for instant A/B'ing.

Have a pedal board and a rack setup so people can actually do on the fly comparisons of two different amps through the type of gear they typically use, with no lag. That would be huge to me. It would also likely generate more sales; people will want the exact rig/pedals they tried at your shop.

Best of luck on the new venture!

awesome Brad, congrats!!! sounds VERY cool, this has been a dream of mine for a very long time.... Good Luck with it!!!

Congrats Brad!

Good for you Brad!!!! I wish nothing but the best success for you!!!! Not to be a jerk and ask favors but will you get a CCV in and let me finance it?
