Were you the owner of the Vintage Guitar shop in Newport , Rhode Island back in the 1980's by any chance? IF SO , I actually took a trip there when I worked for a guitar company in VT. ALSO , I remember ads by you in the WantAdvertiser all the time selling hi-end gear!

PRE -INTERNET .. ha.. those were the days. I used to take day trips all the time to DRome Sound/Hermies/Lark St , etc in Albany ,and DADDY's in Manchester, or Wurlitzer/Lasalle, etc in Boston ,etc, etc, etc. . THEN the internet 'took over'!

Not me, I was in Virginia. Shop was Virginia Beach Vintage Guitars from 1991-2001.

AHHH!!! NO kidding. . I remember ads in the Vintage Guitar Newspaper for the Virginia Beach store.

Almost went there when we were on our vacation from Vt, in about 1996 or so ! Best of luck with the venture, and I bet I take a trip down to RI! :)

Congrats Brad, thats a brave move in this economy

Only way we get out of this economy is moving forward.

Always great do to do something you love. Good luck, Brad! :2thumbsup:

I ran a couple guitar shops in the late 90's/early 00's and got to use someone else's money. We carried some seriously boutique items there (Anderson, Budda when it was Scott and Jeff only, I was the first Framus dealer in TX, etc.) and it was a blast being the buyer for them. NAMM was always fun.

I'm going to be at NAMM this year in the Amptweaker booth a little bit, it'd be cool to meet up and say hey.

Brad,

That's awesome... It takes a lot of courage to walk away from what you know, and go with your dream. I admire you a lot!

As far as lines... I think an Inside line with the Gibson Custom Shop would be the ticket!

You need to have runs made of custom stuff, that know one else has... Signiture models if you will. There is a guitar shop (small), on LI that does this with Suhr, and PRS, and Jackson.

Exotic woods, and finishes that you can ONLY GET @ KING GUITARS.

I would say get GIBSON, SUHR, CHARVEL, JACKSON, FENDER, PRS... WITH STRONG EMPHASIS ON CUSTOM RUNS!

AMPS:

you should have more than the run of the Mill Fender, Marshall, Mesa amps.

Like BOGNER, Engl, Orange, Laney

YOU SHOULD HAVE THE VARIOUS MODELS FROM THE CUSTOM BUILDERS IN STOCK!

THINK OF IT! Having a FORTIN NATAS, BONES, A CALI MOD of a Brand new Reissue Plexi
As WELL AS Cameron CCV & CCM, and FRIEDMAN Kitchen Sink All Instock For People To Hear/Play and See
People Would Come From All Over The Country!!! If PEOPLE COULD PLAY & BUY THOSE WITH NO WAITING?
OMG!

That Would Truly be AMAZING!

Awesome I hope it works out great. I wish for great deals on vintage gear. :)

sounds like a great idea! what a cool place that would be! We need more like that here on the east coast. west coast peeps get all the good stuff! :)

Very cool Brad. Wish you the best. As you know - actually a bad economy is the best time to start up a business if you what you are doing. And I'm sure you know what you are doing. I just started up my 3rd. It's fun isn't it?

RI would be great! Go buy me a nice rig, then stop on the Hill for some delicious veal saltimbocca!

You've already past the litmus test for success, know and love what you're doing. You should consider your sales on RigTalk as your soft open, there is a market for new and used high end gear and you've tapped into it well. Shit, look at how well Vintage King is doing in their market.

Wishing you all the best Brad.

sounds like a day trip for me and a few of my

You know you got my support, looking forward
to visiting your shop!
