I see people using metal zone into a 5150. wtf?

I'm going to assume that they're using it as a boost into the gain channel of the 5150. That's not a bad option IMO, because you've got a serious bit of EQ on that pedal. You've got the standard High/Low knobs and they're active so you can cut as well as boost. You can dial in the Mid frequency you like and boost the hell out of it, then just turn the gain most of the way down and the volume most of the way up. Really useful for tightening up the loose, thick 5150 lead channel or sending the "clean" channel into crunchy beast territory.

ISP THETA amp.

Got one of the first ones when they came out. I love solid state and thought it was gonna be a monster. Lots of eq controls available, and built in decimator. Crazy amount of gain and 300 watts of power. Super cool looking amp head. Worked that bitch for a couple of months trying to get a good tone. Then Bloodrock took it to his place, and after a month he gave up too.

Boosts. Boosting. I don't get using a boost. I have tried. Multiple times. Maybe it's because I use either EMG or Fishman Fluence pickups but every time I try to boost I dial it in transparent. It sounds the same on or off. I don't get it and don't feel the need. I find that the amp does the work and if the amp can't get me there then I don't need it. :dunno:

Line 6 POD HD series. Editing via the software is easy but editing on the unit itself is a mess. About as far away from intuitive as you can get.

...mostly any OD, dirt or distortion pedals. I find them useless with the amps available today.

Funny how we all differ, but for metal (Thrash/modern/death) there have only been a handful of amps I can stand to play without an od up front, and even those I still much preferred with an od. Have never tried a distortion pedal, but a TS type pedals and an mxr 10 band in the loop are essential for me.

Without those tools forget it. Engl amps, notably the Savage 120, are the only amps I've run across that are tight enough to use unboosted. Fryette, Wizard, KSR, especially the Diezels I've owned, Splawn, Bogner, Peavey, Marshall, Mesa, Ampeg, and probably a few brands I'm forgetting, all require some sort of od upfront for my testes.

Fucking MIDI !!! Anything to do with it !!! LOL
+ infinity

Five string bass.

Plus one on 5 string basses. Also guitars with more than 6 strings. That's what a bass is for in the first place.

Boosts and compressors. I find when the whole band is playing I usually can’t tell when they’re on or off. Sounds and feels the same. And could never get a good sound out of a distortion pedal into a clean amp.

Had a Keeley modded DS1. No matter what amp I put it through, I thought it sounded pretty awful. Possible that there was something wrong with it honestly, but it was really cold and unmusical distortion. Tried messing with settings, but I never ended up using it for more than 2 or 3 minutes before going back to amp dirt + OD pedal.

Floyds. Even though I would like to have a trem Guitar that could take abuse and stay in tune, I can’t seem to get over the Floyd hurdle.
Same here. My strings would have to last forever 'cause no matter how many secret-sauce videos I watched changing them was always an ordeal.

I was going post just this one, mate.

Whilst I didn't find the UI too bad (having owned countless ROMplers over the years, menu-diving doesn't scare me much), my problem was the amount of time it took to get a decent tone out of my HD500.

All up I spent 2 1/2 years editing in order to get the best tone possible out of each amp model. Had a neck-and-shoulder ache right through and for many months afterwards. I had to devise a "special" setup with table and chair in order to minimise the physical pain during editing. If it weren't for the internal looper I wouldn't have stood a chance.

The only thing that was intuitive about the HD series was the FX only button on the left side of the unit.

:)

Dialing up the FX was another matter.

Agreed.

Say, when it came to sound, did you find it scratchy / harsh-sounding?

That 2 1/2 years could've been a couple o' days had I not had to spend so much time selecting the right cabs, mic models and finding the perfect balance of preamp and power amp distortion in order to minimise said scratchiness. In the end I had it sounding OK, but nothing to write home about.

Yes, but I was able to work around it somewhat by turning off the cabs and using IRs. In this soundcloud clip I was testing out some Mesa 4x12 V30 IRs and the recto sim on the HD300. Not long after I recorded this I did a Windows update which no longer supported the software editor which greatly reduced the amount of time I spent with the unit. I think Line 6 had a download to fix the issure but don't remember checking into it. Another trick is to use an IR box in the loop of the HD400 or 500, like an AMT Pangaea or Torpedo Cab. I greatly prefer that method vs. the software loaders. Anyway, here is the old HD300 test clip I did.

Guitars with a Floyd are pretty useless to me. I think I used up all my dive bombs and horse sounds decades ago.

I like overdrive and boost. Only distortion pedal I like is the RAT and OCD. The rest have been questionable.
