For the guys using the Yamaha THR10X, can you get a good medium gain, classic rock tone out of them?

Absolutely... I'd throw it on the Brown I (I use this the most), dial back the gain to your 'medium' , classic liking, eq as well, and enjoy.

I also believe the original yamaha 10c has more useable vintage profiles to use. You may want to look into that. I NEVER use anything other than Brown I (99%) or Brown II on my 10x. The Powers, clean, and southern are useless to me.

I got one of these, 150w version to take places to play bluetooth music loud. However, I already have an Ipad and an Iphone. You can store 4 tones in the unit, so once you have a few tones you like you don't need to have an ipad or iphone with you.

This thing sounds mint at bedroom levels. When you really crank it, it all goes to hell, but for normal practice, it sounds great. Sometimes I just like to sit and make tones, and with this thing, you can really go nuts with that.

How good is it at copying the tones from albums? I saw on YouTube where they did some metallica tones and it sounded decent. I'm curious how it would hold in person...

There is also this pedal you can put into the loop of your amp.

I've got an amplifi 150 too. I love it but the tone matching isn't what I thought it would be. Basically uses the artist/song info and suggests tones people have made that have the tags in them. I'm just messing with it more now and getting decent tones but not sure it's got the tube feel your looking for. Heard all great things about the Yamaha piece

Never seen a need to upgrade from my Peavey Rage for quiet practicing over the YEARS I've had it

I have a little Vox AD15VT.
Pretty cool little combo with built in effects. Nice spanky cleans then to some grit and finally pretty decent metal tones.
Had it for about 8 years.

I agree, these are the only 2 I use aswell. And for headphone use and low volume I prefer the THR10x to the Mesa Mark V:25

I was using a Yamaha THR 10X and and then tried a Marshall JVM1H with a 2x12 marshall cab.
loved it ,bought it and never looked back!
best practice amp i ever owned.

My main amp - Bogner Atma. Works just as good at home as it does in the club.

I've been using a Cube for 10 years. They sound great. I've brought it on every vacation my family has gone on in that time. For recording, Kemper.

DAR FBM. headphone out. Sounds great at bedroom levels too. Has an epileptic seizures warning.

For the last couple of decades it's been various versions of this:

Dude, that rack looks like the space shuttle cockpit.

I don't use the tone matching of the amplifi, I could care less about that. It's cool if you just want to have something handy to bring with you somewhere and doubles as a music player as well. The bluetooth range on it is about 3' seriously. It's fucking ridiculous. Might as well just do a cord from your ipad / iphone to the back of the thing. I don't know if all bluetooth is like that. My car seems to have a much bigger range than that, but my car is German made, not Chinese made. BAM!!!!
