I understand and respect the opinions here. But I view it differently. If a person can make a living playing guitar in YT, then I think that’s great, even if they’re not a virtuoso or an awesome player or anything. I enjoy most of them, from demos to lessons to just jamming riffs. I think it’s awesome to adapt to new ways to make a living and keep guitar at the forefront of what they do.

Couple of my favorites, Signal Music Studio does a great job with theory and he’s no shredder. Uncle Ben Eller is fun to watch. David Wallimann and Troy Grady too. I only have a handful I subscribe to and watch all their videos.

I really enjoy those guys you mentioned. Ive learned a great deal from each of those guys. I've attended a few clinics with Ben Eller, Andy Wood, and Seth Rosenbloom. Each time I left I felt motivated to pick up a guitar. I also grabbed a package from David Walliman last year which FINALLY made modes click for me. I guess for me it comes down to a personality thing. When someone is overly cocky or is trying to squeeze every dime they can out of people I tend to get irritated. Plugging a mobile game in the middle of a video is the worst. Pushing products that you know are substandard is another thing. A lot of guys were pushing Panama amps publicly but then saying what they really thought about them offline. Phil McKnight was the first person to give an honest review of those amps. Guys like Ben are giving you a ton of free contact and then having patreon pages for bonus content which I think is great. Ola has Solar guitars, his music, merchandise, and his paid membership which Im 100% behind because it's his brand. David Walliman is an excellent teacher. You can learn a ton from him for free but if you need more he offers courses. Thats respectable. But I dont for one second believe Glen Fricker plays mobile games and has the exact opinion of the game verbatim as Stevie T. Again I question why I pay for no commercials when these guys slip one in like that. Im not a fan of how Stevie T. makes a living mocking on stage fails when he himself is too scared to get up on stage. Lots of people have anxiety myself included but to make money off mocking on stage screw ups is pretty shitty when you have the ability and the offer to play live but cant get up there and do it yourself.

Im not a fan of Rob Chapman at all and its mainly due to inflated ego.

Yeah I hear ya, I pay for the Family plan and hate to see videos stop mid stream for an Ad.

Side note, how was the Walliman package? I’ve started to try that a few times and stopped short of buying. Good stuff?

I really got a lot out of it. I finally know my modes and how to use them. I'm taking lessons from Jon Bjork now which have been great

David Walliman gives you 20-30 min vids, charts, and backing tracks. Plus he teaches in a simple way

Something that's always bothered me on YT is how a lackluster female guitarist can get hundreds of thousands of views/subs because she exposes some skin while there are talented nobodies that get no credibility or exposure at all .

Or what about the women who are excellent players but choose to show off skin to get noticed? Dont get me wrong I love scantily clad women but I wish they would set a better example for younger girls picking up the instrument. You have really talented women out there making a name for themselves without dressing like a stripper. Im not some uber politically correct guy but I do know a couple very talented female guitarist who wont post videos cause they dont feel pretty as Nita Strauss or they feel like they will get harassed by guys wanting them to show more skin. You also get women who have their tits halfway falling out who get mad at guys in the comments section for making a comment about them. Thats like me playing guitar in a banana hammock then getting mad at people who are posting about being made sick by the sight of my body.

He’s alright, pretty nice dude. I knew him a little bit 20 years ago from the NJ cover band circuit.

just found video that says she is dead but it looks off

One thing I respect orianthi for. She is a pretty damn good player and hot, but doesn't show skin.

I found out about Jack Thammarat through youtube. He does post too many product demos, but his original music is FANTASTIC! Should he be on stage playing with Vai? Yeah, I think he could hold his own on stage with Steve Vai.

Rob Chappman? I don't enjoy the Anderton's demos. I'd rather just a demo of the gear, without all the jokes and banter. His videos when he was a Rep for Orange, where he just demo'd gear was really enjoyable. His demo's seem to be good and professional. Should he be playing with Vai?.... Lucky Rob! If I were rob, I'd go play with Vai? Wouldn't you? The guy was probably thrilled!!!

Fluff and the Gear Gods guys- I think those guys are members here, or were on rig talk at some point, right? The Gear Gods seem to be a little more artsy. (I distinctly remember an interview they had of the guitarist from, "Consider The Source". I had just seen them a while ago, a little jazz-fusion/ funk band) - More musical from more different styles, as where Fluff is more of a modern Riffage guy? is either breaking new sonic ground? No. Do I enjoy the content? I enjoy some of it. If Fluff was Satchel from Steel Panther, would I enjoy it more? OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!! That's would be amazing!!!!!!! But then again, I like hair metal as opposed to modern riffage.

Cameron Cooper and NeoGeoFanatic- They do a lot of Charvel/ Jackson/ Kramer/ 80's demos. Both guys seem to be quality players. So far, they're pretty enjoyable.

Pete Thorn- He's a Pro ;). Very enjoyable videos. Almost all of them. Quality Everything. Could he play with Vai? Yeah, I think so.
(I also think he's a member here).

Doug Rappaport-[ I found out about him when one of his songs "RiffRaff", was used in a promo video that Charvel put out to announce new colors for their guitars. ] Doug is a GREAT player and deserves WAY more attention than he gets. He could absolutely play on stage with Vai.

Now, some of the other guys... Yea, I agree. Its 20 mins of my life I won't get back, but it is what it is...

yep - seen one of her vids before....almost 1.5 million subs? LOL, yeah ok.

This is way better if you're interested in watching a female guitar player........... but........... there's lots of other stuff out there that just happens to have a guitar in it

I watch a few of them for gear reviews.

Some of the Andertons videos are hysterical, like their review of the Korg Miku pedal.
Pete Thorn gear reviews are cool. He often uses whatever he's reviewing to build an instrumental and then shows how he used it in the track.
Andy Martin's gear reviews for Reverb are pretty good too.

One of the best non guitar reviewers is Mark Doty (Automatic Gainsay). Mark does very detailed reviews of analog synthesizers. I have learned a lot about subtractive synthesis watching his videos.

LOl! Dude that's one of the exact people/vids I was thinking of, and BTW I'm not trashing her but there are some great players on YT that get so little recognition .

Truthfully I love that the popularity of the youtube gear guys. I realize now that a lot of them have monetized it and made a living out of it, it has basically become shitposting for content and views, but they still get the heads up on a lot of cool gear, and a lot of them post demos you'd never see from a manufacturer or dealer. Sweetwater has some decent videos (mostly with Nick on percussion, great demo vids) but they aren't anything super informative.

Entertainment value on a lot of them alone is worth it for me, even though some of the personalities can be grating or seem forced.

The only one at this point I can't stand is Brad the guitologist. Seems like he knows his shit, but most of the videos of his I've seen are him crying about other youtubers or personalities in the business, and it seems like sour grapes to me.

In fact, a lot of the posts on here seem like sour grapes. Probably the same type of dudes in the 80's who wanted to make a living off music but sucked, and got shitty watching other people succeed.

You ever tried to put together a youtube video with the production values of some of these guys? It takes HOURS, and honestly was not as fun as I imagined it to be. Now try doing that 3x a week and keep the content fresh. Good luck.

I welcome these guys, watch their videos for entertainment, sometimes info, never to judge their playing talent levels, and enjoy it for what it is, grain of salt, etc.

Yes^ it is time-consuming. Fluff was between jobs and cashed in his pension to go all-in on his videos to make them an everyday thing and succeeded. Hats off to him, that's awesome!
