Holy cow, everyone is dumping their mesa mark series amps. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, things go in cycles. Not many musicians use the same gear throughout there career, so its not surprising. Sorry you guys are jumping ship from the mark series, however I totally understand, which is why I have my trusty marshall 2553, but the mark IVA is going nowhere, unless I get a mark V or maybe an Axe-Fx, then its in trouble.... :D

Dont sell your IV for a V dont do it!
Im still keeping my IV just going to buy a Bones and run them side by side or together

Have you played the V yet? I was suprised to hear people say their IV's sounded better on the lead channel, seems like they were onto something.
I was a little worried when all the videos came out and it sounded like crap. While it sounds better than those videos it still doesn't live up to the hype in any way, for me at least. My old IIC+ amps i owned smoked the V for feel and dynamics.

What are you replacing the V with?

I REALLY love the fact that I can mix and match power tubes. I think I would love the Bones with a quad of 6550s or 6L6's to help give me a more modern sound. I also want to be able to footswitch between the 3 gain stages (switch on the front). Combine that with a pedal for extra dirt and I could have almost any tone I wanted.

This!! Plus a footswitchable solo boost :inlove:

You can always get away with an EQ pedal into an effects loop for a volume boost.

I think after owning a mark series amp i couldnt live without an eq in the loop not for scooping mids just i love the idea of moldeing the frequinces like that.

I am an EQ whore but I found out throughout the years I kept setting the EQ for a specific sound and left it.
Mike has built a mod for me that has the MidRange that I Like, so not having an EQ is great for me because Im literally tired of fucking around with it :hys:
After screwing around with EQ's for many years and having the EQ get messed with either in transit or pilot error Im happy to have an amp with my sound built in ;)
The other thing that I noticed is that my IV got eaten alive live at a rehearsal studio. I had to EQ the amp almost to the stock sound of the MKIV . I would have thought maybe it was just me had I been alone but being that one of my best friends Harry was there jamming with me using the same setup and he had the same problem. I guess its safe to say that it wasn't just me lol. It was then that we both had some doubts about using the IV in a live band situation. That's part of the reason why Ive always used a slave rig with the boog.

Unfortunately, no I haven't. Nearest store that might have one is about an hour drive each way and I just haven't had the time. I don't have the funds to buy one if I do try it out, so it hasn't really been a priority. I actually bought my mark IVA used without ever playing one. It worked out well though for me. I will get to try out a mark V at some point though....

I'll never Dump it but after using Boogies since the 80's methinks its time to move on a bit....until I get bored and go back but having the option to do that is amazing!!

Not sure yet. I had an idea of where i was going but now I'm interested in sending a Marshall for a Fortin mod. So i may just be looking for a JCM800 reissue.

To using Fortin Modded Marshalls. They just do it for me these days.
I still love the Boogies and always will but the Modded Marshalls are just so much easier to use and they just sound killer and they are very inspiring to play.

When I started playing with the new band, I noticed that my MKIV was getting killed in a mix and I had to really fuck around with the EQ. This wasn't new to me but qfter many years of doing this it was an added HUGE PITA. I guess in my old age, Im just tired or having to tweak the EQ lol.
With Mikes Cali Modded Marshall all I have to do is literally plug in , set up my controls the way I like it and Im good to go.

I'll still continue to use the AXE-FX live because of the flexability but the Modded Marshall Mike Lent me has been my go to amp since I got it. I can't wait to get my 100 watter back from Mike and I can't wait until he gets a chance to work on my Ultimate mod lol

Well there you have it.

~R~

Everything goes in cycles, happened to me too fairly recently Ralph. Needed to take a break from the Mark series tone after 9 years. Got a few simpler/easier to dial in amps myself.

Ive just noticed i like packing lots and lots of low mids, I like a dark low mid heavey tone( Mark IV does that very well) Ala joe bonamssa with a little more modern twist, Im just curouis if he has a 2 channel amp because if he does im going to be all over that after i buy my suhr :)

My Mark IV sits very well in the mix though im very very happy and have never been happier with my tone but theres allways room for improvment right?
