all the maths aside .... I always called it " Math " the manufacturer suggests you use the cab they built to go with it ... kind of a no brainer

and in case no one knows ..... a wattage rating of an amp is the rating for " CLEAN POWER " dimed

if you're running her hot ..... you can hit 150 watts of output .... ( that's dimed of course )

so what do you do there ? with your 100 watt cab ?? how the maths work there ?

Ohms law: V=IR. There's a single multiplication. If you flip it around to solve for I or R there's a single division.

Joule's law (resistive heating) isn't super important here - what you really want is the formula for electric power - P=IV. Again, simple multiplication and division. If you get all crazy and combine the two you can end up with a squared or square root term.

You'd also want the formulas for impedance in series and parallel. The first is just addition, the second is addition and fractions.

Basically nothing I wouldn't expect my 4th grader to get right, but she is better at math than the average 4th grader.

The math works the speakers might blow. Which is the reality with a 100w amp into 4 greenbacks whether listed at 20W or 25W.

Solving the formulas is basic algebra, but understanding them is more than basic math. I guess on surface level plugging numbers into the formulas will get the basic info, but if you want to know what those numbers actually mean you need to go beyond math.

And you're right about the power formula which also applies. I was thinking Joules law in the terms of current going into the voice coil and thermal heating before it starts to melt.

Maybe AI is using some Nu-maths but again as far as I know maths hasn't changed and AI doesn't change basic maths or the understanding of it :dunno:

So basically what everyone except Kid has been saying as far as the OP's question is concerned. The EVH 412 cab will be just fine for bedroom level playing. If OP decides to play with a full band and/or dime the MV he might want to consider higher power cab options.

No again...... Youre even more fucked as the amp can push 200 watts and again your pushing into a cab that max takes 80 watts......



It only reinforces my argument more that it's completely unsafe.

If I was broke, I would be afraid to break something. Fortunately, while not a millionaire, I have enough cash to replace a speaker or cab with ease if I need to.

But nvm what a schmuck like me has to say, nvm basic maths and common sense... Let's just throw out everything out the window including basics and fundamentals of basic physics and just say fuck it you can use a 110 cab with a 40 watt speaker and pretend it can safely power a 200 watt head.

My policy on speakers is I'd rather burn em up than have them fade away. Seriously though unless you are a touring pro getting your master volume consistently over half way every day, you probably won't blow any up, and when you do you get street cred. 😍

An amp at home volumes is putting out like 5W, which is far less than 80. It is only an issue if you are cranking the amp to stage volumes where you can't stand within 10 feet of it.
