Blues is nice because there is the expectation that even a touring pro blues band will still be doing some of the standards. It's part of the gig. No one freaks if you throw an original in there. I have about a set of originals that I play at every gig mixed with standards that I enjoy.

Yeah for anything rock related it just isn't like that. You can get away with 2-3 covers in a setlist, but any more than that and you had better have advertised yourself as a tribute or cover band, because it's going to ruffle a bunch of feathers. Especially with the other bands on the bill.

In fact, IME most cover bands don't even have another band on the bill. It's so weird because it's just like two separate but related realities.

I know it. Rock is in a tough spot right now. The challenge with blues is finding venues that still book it. The number of bad blues bands proliferated to the point that a lot of people (and clubs) just assume it is slow, boring, low energy music or guitarists who aren't very good at playing guitar playing it too loud, lol.

Don't I know it. There are at least 5 of these exact bands locally, and one blues band I would describe as good.

The good band has a couple of local spots that have become "their" venue but struggle getting booked because of the half dozen awful "bands"
 
Les Paul’s are some of my favorites. This one was the first time I saw one in a video and said damn I need to get one:

From what ive been able to gather it seens like most tof the best blues guys in the pac nw are in the portland area. Its a weird scene nationally now, one scene sort of detached from the others.

The last stand is still Chicago. For all the hype Texas gets there is only one dedicated blues club left in the state, over in Houston. Antones in Austin is a total joke. Even places like BB kings in Memphis seem to turn to southern variety acts to fill a lot of timeslots.
