Dave covers Ride the Lightning on final Megadeth

Yeah, but did he though? Dave isn't the most reliable witness. I'd like James & Lars to verify exactly what riffs are Daves after all these years of Daves claims.

Dave has written some of the best riffs in metal. He's a fkn master. 'Ride the Lightning' as a song is cool and all, but I wouldn't place those riffs as anything outstanding tbh. Much more iconic riffs come from on his own stuff like RIP and Peace Sells. He doesn't need to rehash a good, but not necessarily outstanding song from an ex-band that is 40+ years old, and I think is just gonna tarnish his own legacy.
Ironically it's one of Kirks best written leads as a whole within the song. Maybe he wants to Dave-wash the song with his own version out of spite to Kirk?

Dave's usual album release media rounds always include his bitchy stuck in the past nature toward Metallica in interviews to garnish clickbait attention, but covering an old song of theirs at this stage of his swansong album just seems next level petty. Maybe it will be amazing and I'll be blown away. Maybe not.

I like Dave for his Megadeth stuff. This 'cover' seems like shooting himself in the foot right at the finish line.
I mean they fave him credit and paid him millions for 6 songs he wrote
Seems true . Why pay or even put his name on it too ?

I realise he did write riffs they used and hence had to acknowledge his contributions accordingly, but exactly how much of that song is Dave's writing I don't know. It could just be that main verse riff for another riff or all we know. Significant enough to be credited as a part writer (esp to appease a whining bitch like Dave), but it's not the entire song structure.
I guess we'll find out when it's released as I'm sure Dave will only want to keep the parts he claims as his like when he did The Mechanix as his original version.
I'm not arguing with you brother, I just take anything Dave says with a HUGE dose of salty bitch factor.

I'm surprised still that he's gone with this unusual song choice. He could have done Jump In the Fire, which sounds more like Dave's style than RTL. Or even a Sabbath/Ozzy song as a final tribute tip of the hat.
Meh, perhaps it's just because he knows 90% of the conversation about the album will be about the Metallica track he covered instead of the other 10 songs that are probably fantastic. It guarantees him clickbait and attention to wear his victimhood loud and proud.

I actually think this cover is even cooler if he only wrote a part . That means he’s playing their shit more. I’d find that better . But idk I honestly wish a good interview would ask these questions. I mean we wound love to know . But you’re right they will just try to get the same quotes about Metallica instead of like how much did you write? What’s yours ? What’s the other guys parts they wrote ? And such

Yes. Seems Mustaine did well and better than fine in his own career without Metallica. It's not like he faded into obscurity and worked a regular job after being kicked out of Metallica.

He should respect what he accomplished more than it seems he does. He has/had decades of a successful music career, and survived into old age. He should be proud of what he accomplished IMO. I would be.
Oh, he does accept his accomplishments, the guy's full of himself when he gets the chance to speak about it. He thinks he created thrash and was the first shredder of the era. I've heard him call himself a legend many times.

Can you point on the doll where Mustaine Ellefson’d you? :D

I remember watching a video where Dave was describing the "spider chord" and using RTL as the examples of riffs he wrote for the song (claiming he didn't remember the name) and how Metallica were playing them wrong. The riffs he showed were the verse riff (starting at 0:12 in the Met version) and the bridging riff (starting at 1:56). No idea if he'll claim any of the other riffs in the song.

I'd like to hear Metallica cover Holy Wars or Hanger 18.

Not that Hamster would have a hope in hell of doing those solos justice, but it would be amusing or sad to see him try.

That’s what makes it cooo . It’s a true Metallica song with other guys riffs and he’s taking it back . Ending megadesth full circle . Back to the start . Metallica. If we like it or not Megadeth is literally an off shoot of Metallica

I don’t think James could play the riffs right . James does not move his left around like that when playing fast . He usually trems open strings instead . In 2025 I can’t see even James playing the riffs in hangar 18 . And Kirk ? No way lol

I think it’s sad. its the dudes final album of his own legendary band, yet he still just has to play some kind of victim and make it about him getting kicked out of Metallica 43 years ago or whatever. Wouldnt getting James to sing basically just confirm Metallica is above Megadeth?? for the seemingly alpha baddass martial artist Dave Mustaine who kicked cancers ass, its just not a good look to me.
I know what you are saying but l look at it as a point where these guys finally got back to being friends again and can do something like this.

I really respect Dave for where he is at in life after going thru varying frustrations at different times. I understand how it could look like he is doing the victim thing but I look at it as such a cool thing for him to be able to put his spin on that song years later without drama.

It's pretty obvious if you pay attention stylistically that stuff like the verse riff is mustaine's, right? I mean the whole "up and down a tritone" thing is something that mustaine does that hetfield does not do - it's kind of a "no shit."

I bought a Cameo Birthday video from Dave that turned out to be his skin flute rendition of melody he called "High Speed Dick.. Jazzing in Your Mouth".
I guess should have questioned why he required Robux to pay for it.

edit: In hindsight, Don't sign up for a video called "Watch him becum a Gaaaahhhh!! 💦
