Most Dissappointing Piece of Gear You've Ever Bought?

Boss GT-10. This was supposed to be light years ahead of the GT-6/8. I had the silly idea it would sound good plugged directly into a pa. It did ok with clean tones but any overdrive/distortion tones sounded worse than playing a Kazoo into a Radio Shack microphone attached to a $19.99 Walmart boombox.

Got to agree here. The GT-8 is a great sounding processor -- all the models after that (GT-10, GT-100) sound like ass.

Hey--what do you call someone who can't sound good through a Splawn? A roadie!!

I really wanted to like it! I just couldn't get anything but, a shrill, thin tone. I can usually dial something usable up on even the worst amp, not on this one.........No matter how hard I tried! To be fair I even gave one another shot a few years later and it was the same deal, To me it was an extremely overpriced Crate at best

The Plexitone was a huge let down to me regardless if I used it with my AC30, 74' Plexi or a Hiwatt Custom 50. Channel two, never delivered on the high gain 800 type of thing it was claiming it could do and the boost section shat out and produced a high squeal when engaged. I replaced the pot but to no avail did it work right again.

I used the pedal both as a low volume boost and as an overdrive once the amps above reached the edge of breakup. I just never geled with it.

Difference of opinion really.

Axe FX II. Wanted something for low volumes and headphones. Diezel sounds just as good at low volumes (actually sounds better IMHO) and into headphones, the Axe sounded no better than my PodXT.

This is what scares me about modelers. I am sure they can and do sound good but everyone that posts a good clip of one records it directly into the computer or off a mixing board live. I really want to own an Axe or Kemper but I'd need to hear one live in a band, either through a power amp or through a monitor. I heard Zweezil with the Axe live and his tone was terrible.

I ran an Axe-Fx standard as a preamp through a QSC 1450 into a Marshall 4x12. It sounded pretty good.

I couldn't ever get the Axe FX II to sound right, whether through PA monitors or through a poweramp/cabinet. It never had the presence to compete with a 5150/Carvin Legacy 412 the fella I was playing with used, no matter what settings I adjusted. It sounded phenomenal for DI recording though, but I actually enjoy the process of miking a real cabinet and dealing all the tiny irregularities and artifacts a real guitar amplifier has. It just has more balls.

I have to go back a ways-Wanted a bit more out of a modded mid 70's Marshall JMP I had, my first decent amp I had. I loved that thing. Took it to this Jabco guy in Hollywood who fuckin gutted it and turned it in to a pile of shit. After a couple of sessions with this electronics guy I knew at the time, trying to revive it. I ended up disgusted by it, and just trading it away... I remember trying this thing out after the Jabco guy had modded it and literally almost tearing up. It did sound pretty cool before that and if I had only known Jose was right around the corner.
