Not just here but a lot of places. Its pretty bad when you have to take such a hit to try to sell something thats worth much more and even then you have a hard time selling it. I have a guitar easily worth 5K in the classifieds...a couple of lowballers and thats it. Just checked Ebay...3 guitars exactly the same...guys asking between $6975 and $7200. You figure you can make a quick sale so you price low already at $4200 and some fuck still tries to knock you down $500 bucks...ok rant over lol....carry on

Here's the thing, it doesn't matter that you think it's "brand new," because it's not. At $4200 you're expecting to get 84% of what you paid new (or what you think it's worth) and that's simply not going to sell at that price point. Put it up at 70% ($3500) and it'll move. Don't like that kinda loss? Don't buy new, really simple.
Dont know where you getting your numbers for your calculations but I didn't buy it brand new...its worth more than 5K brand new. I paid 5K for it used...I put it for sale at $4200 after a few months of buying it and even went down to $4000 if you would of checked. So not good enough for you?? $3500 bucks is just stupid for this guitar...guys like you are the problem

A lot of people don't realize that music gear is a lot like cars...drive them off the lot and they are automatically devalued. People always "want what they paid for it", but it is a stupid and unrealistic thing.

lol...yeah ok

I'm not looking to buy your guitar period, don't worry. How much is the guitar new? You likely paid way too much for it used by the sounds of it.

looks like you guys would get along good  Give me a fucking break...so the guy buying it for $3500 would only be able to flip it for 70% of that??? When does it stop?? Stupid

Actually I'm not. And it's "you're," "buddy."

Look at what used R9s are actually selling for on ebay and reverb. That should always be a reasonable starting point for what you list it for. The only 50th anny one recently went for... wait for it... $3400. You paid *way* too much used and now you're going to take a loss unless you wanna wait a really long only to not sell it. But definitely $34-3600 is what a used R9 is gonna go for right now, you're free to sit there for months and not sell it though.

It just comes down to the economy these days...shit happens. That I understand. Then you got the douchebags that try to tell you what its worth and thats it.
Better off keeping gear like this and waiting for better times to sell. Thats the reality. I dont need the cash that bad so there is no way in hell that I'll give this guitar to some douchebag that wants something for nothing ;) See ya :D
I got a new amp to play

Again, I'm not looking to buy from you, I have way more guitars than I need as is. I'm getting ready to fly to Seattle for some gigs, have fun not selling your guitar though.

[snip] People piss me off. Why watch? If you want something, be realistic, and buy the damn thing?? I don't play games. If I want something, I find a reasonable price, and I pull the trigger. No games, I don't play around!

The market totally sucks for sellers right now, and being someone who sells about as much as he buys... it depresses me. But c'mon... you can bitch about super low-ballers (cause I hate 'em too), but bitching about people who WATCH your auctions/sales? Seriously? I watch all kinds of shit that I never buy. Does that make me an asshole? A lot of times it's just to remind me of the things on my long/short list, but that I'm not currently able to pay for. It's not intended to jack the seller around, hurt their feelings, or get their hopes up. Some of you guys take this stuff a bit too seriously.

its hard to admit when you paid too much for something. lashing out at people on the internet really helps though...

Just a market cycle. Just like everything else. It's a buyers market.

Been hearing that since 2008.
Nope.
The economy is fucked, cost of living is going up while salaries have stagnated, real unemployment numbers (including those that have given up on looking, and those those that have not applied or do not qualify for unemployment insurance) are high, job security in less skilled fields is more sketchy than ever.
It's not even a buyers market.
It's not really a market.
People are broke, or running super lean, and worried about the future so luxuries like gear are taking a back seat.
Hell, I think I make on OK living and i've been trying to sell gear left and right just to pad up the emergency fund.
This is the new status quo, and you better realize it.

I agree with this. And I've known it for a while. Which is why I really SHOULD stop with the GAS bullshit and put money into things that have real value in a depressed economy. I went through my prepping phase years ago, but have been in a gear-whoring phase for the past decade. I really need to go back to prepping (or at least being more conservative fiscally like my frugal wife).

This is actually fairly accurate. I see people listing their used R9's for $4K+ all day long, but NONE of them are selling for that. I might even say that you could get between $3500-3800 if you really want to move one, but you'd probably have to wait a little while even at those prices. What it boils down too, is that no one should ever buy a new Gibson Historic of any kind if they plan to move it within in a couple of years or so and expect not to take much of a loss. The prices they sell for new are complete ass-rape.....especially the "True" Historics....taking ass-rape to another level. There are far less people looking to spend $3K+ on a guitar nowadays, much less $4K+.

Yes, you are exactly right. Go into a guitar shop, pay $3000 for a guitar new, you can probably sell it for $2100 used. What is so hard to understand?
