Orianthi's amazing guitar tones!

that's a crazy venue, the Melody Tent in Cape Cod. I played there with Melissa Etheridge this summer... chaotic sounding, with a rotating stage... but fun, because it's so wacky. Anyways, ya I can't imagine not knowing about the gear I was using, I find that odd. To each is/her own.

That's what I find most odd about this vid. Looks like that guy controls all of her patches on the fly too.
 
I've never heard/seen her play anything remarkable. She's a decent player, but not worth the attention she gets. It's more sex appeal more than cold hard talent, IMO. I don't mind looking at her though. How do you get the jobs just fiddling gear and building tones for people? I want to do that!

What's wrong with that? She's a smoking player and a hot looking chick. That's a fact of life and marketing. I've seen far less talented players get press they didn't earn, signature gear, etc. IMO she has a steeper hill to climb because the first thing everyone points out is her looks and it works against her too, double edged sword. I'd love to see the reaction to her playing if it wasn't a video and people couldn't see who was playing.

I can tell you the reaction. I first saw a video of her years ago before she was famous playing Santana covers and thought she sounded promising. She was a kid. Flash forward to this past year or so when her album dropped. My alarm went off and I heard some God awful crap song on the radio. I had no idea who it was. It was like a watered down, more cliche version of Avril Lavigne (if possible) with a very generic solo. They then said, "and that was the new song from Orianthi." I was literally shocked that it was her and so subpar. I expected much, much more from her. Everything since then has been just as bad. I agree 100% with Kage.

I agree. She's an average player at best to be a hired gun for the gigs she's getting.

Clearly this video was mislabeled and they were going through some CC Deville presets, you know how easy it is to get things mixed up.
 
Kinda reminds me of the whole Vanessa Mae phenomenon... (remember the sexy Singaporean/Thai/Chinese violin chick?) Hailed as a virtuoso violinist, but marketed on her looks (her versions of Paganini's caprices should testify to the fact that her looks were her stronger attribute). Nevertheless, she made a ton of money, achieved fame, inspired countless erections. Been promising new albums for years, but none have been released.
(And apparently is now contemplating representing Thailand in the 2014 Olympics in Downhill Skiing!!?!?)
I find her playing painfully below her reputation, but she holds your attention, for a while.

Orianthi is "HOT" & plays pretty damn well IMHO........... She's the total package for todays scene as far as I'm concerned! :thumbsup:

Then again, it's "This" kind of "Talent" that inspires "Me" to keep trying: ;)
