Orianthi's amazing guitar tones!

My $.02 is that she IS a good guitar player. Those tones in the original video were crap..but how can one judge based on it not being in a mix?

Second set of vids posted (with santana) sounded better, but nothing ground breaking.

That's my thing with this particular guitar player (notice that I didn't say girl)...she doesn't really have a unique style or personal style to her playing. She can play, no doubt, but more like a hired gun/session guitarist that just plays what is in front of them. There's no real lasting creativity to it.

Hopefully I'm wrong about her in that she DOES posses those qualities but just haven't been able to be let out of the bag yet.

All that said, I'd still rather watch this chick run pentatonic licks for hours than to have to listen to a single note of a fucking Nickleback song.

I concur 100% with both these observations and statements And hey, if this also opens the door for other chicks to dig picking up the axxe, than so be it - the more the merrier. Been a long time since we've seen the likes of a Lita Ford et al.

I think that she gets mileage for her playing based on her looks IMO. Ive watched a load of her vids and all I can think is that if she were a guy, nobody would be saying anything near as complimentary. Flame suit on...

I'm late to the party but I couldn't agree more...average player at best.

I'm more turned off by the PRS guitars she uses Hey, if I wasn't married I'd fuck her then "shoot" for a free lesson/pick-me-up after.
I can't knock her to much. She's an Aussie too.

Yup. Plus I think she's kinda odd looking. Playing with Steve Vai helps alot too I'm sure.

Sorry for the double post. But another thing, she's essentially a pop act, I'm glad she's encouraging young girls to pick up guitar, I'd love to see more female guitarists, but she's a pop act with the whole 'Rock Chick/Guitar Hero' kinda vibe going on. She doesn't have to be good. That rock chick vibe is all she needs to be commercially succesful.

You bring up an interesting point as well. There is commercial, technical, and the stuff I like personally categories that come to mind when someone says 'good'.

She is a nice looking chic and has nice thick lips. It would be fun to jam with her. She is not a commercial hit like Taylor Swift but then who else is anywhere near TS now. And well, TS is way hotter too. I am not a technical player so that is just impressive stuff I can't do when someone gives a shred gymnastics demo. And last, she does not play the type of music I normally listen to.

Is she good? On a few of the counts, most def.... But as a typical guy, I wonder if she is good with those luscious lips more than anything else. Not being disrespectful about that, just really, who looks at an attractive young woman and thinks scale boxes and diminished chord structure? Reality should never be pushed aside for PC bullshit.
