Tone is in the fingers.....

The only tone in anyone's fingers is if they're snapping their fingers, clapping their hands, using their fingers to whistle or making hand farts.

IF tone were in the fingers (A horribly ignorant and entirely inaccurate statement), players would mic their air guitars.

I find it interesting that so many still confuse discussing 'tone' w/ style, touch or technique.

The tone is in the instrument, and it's the player's job to coax it out, assuming the potential is in there in the 1st place (On the player's part, as well as the instrument).

That's true BUT the way you PLAY the instrument with your FINGERS does effect how it sounds. The way you strike the strings and fret the notes all play a HUGE part IMO.

That would be the fingers coaxing potential tone 'from the instrument', would it not? ;)

Satch writes incredible melodies & has mastered theory. He has great overall feel & chops. His legato is incredible.

He is the main reason instrumental guitar became as popular as it did. Dude's a legend!

This is absolutely true! A players STYLE is in their fingers, not their tone. If tone were in the fingers, then EVH(insert artist of your choice) could get his electric tone with an acoustic!

There's a reason why guys don't typically mic the neck of their guitars, where their fingers are... ;) Because the tone ain't there.
