After playing for 30 years, the Splawn cabs are the best I have ever owned.

I bought a used one from a ex-RT member that I need to pick-up here in the Chicago area soon. It is loaded with V30s/G12H30 70th annys.

I must of had a bad one....because mine was VERY harsh sounding. It came loaded with MOW's/Gov's which I ripped out within a few days...very mid spikey/flubby combo to my ears. I installed a quad of vintage G1265's (my GO TO speaker) and it sounded marginally better. The cab was gone in a few weeks. I did keep the matching QuickRod for about 18 months.

I had this EXACT experience.

I also have two splawn 4x12's. One of them is loaded with an X pattern of V30's and small blocks. Absolutely love it. Leaps and bounds better over my 5150 cabinet. The cabinet itself is solid and very well made. Quality is consistent.

I say go for the combination

I had a Splawn cab loaded with a quad of m65 creambacks, great tone. A Splawn cab has the construction and wood quality of the best cabs on the market. Period.

bringing this thread back cuz I want to.

Just picked up a pair of Governors to throw in my all small block 4x12. Don't know if I should X-pattern or not. I know they rate about 101.9db and the small blocks are around 97db. Playing a bit more metal, and I like the governors...Got a good price so I will have them tomorrow. heat up the gun. Not real sure I will jump at a pair of man-o-wars yet, or just stay with small block/gov. or maybe something else?

I kinda miss the gov/mow combo I used to use before swapping for sb's. Don't get me wrong, I love the sb's, but theyre a bit 'softer' sounding than the gov/mow's that were in there before

I'd agree to that. I currently(for 3 weeks) have mine loaded with all governors...I like it. I have a pair of Manowars which I have yet to throw in and try, and also have a v30 laying around...but don't know if I wanna stick it in there? A lot of damn soldering in the past couple months, but my technique has improved. haha

I found a 4x12 with small blocks on cllist for $400. Made well. Sounds great
