AJFA has Bass boosted and Mids scooped all the way out. I have flemming ramausenns notes from AJFA somewhere on my computer. I'll try to post them. And I can get AJFA's tone practically perfect on my boogie taking out the low mids and scooping the mids, and Having the bass almost full on the EQ.

That's OK. IT's definitely a setting I would never use :D

This one makes me want to go out and buy another Triple XXX. :D

I've got the notes as well. I recall that the mids are not as scooped on the Boogie's EQ as you'd expect. James Hetfield would use an external parametric equaliser in the effects loop, to do more of the mid-scooping. I think 1.2kHz was a critical frequency? Maybe 220 as well.

To me, the tone on AJFA is more about the microphone placement. If you get two 4x12 cabs next to each other, no reverb, and close-mic them, with a mid-scooped setting and the top end boosted, it sounds like scraping and searing your skin off.

This is my favorite thrash tone. (watch the 2nd song, Sucidial!)

I love overkills tone on Wheelz

Does anyone know What Gear overkill is using on ReliXIV?

Just realized While I was playing My framus, That This sounds a lot like The tones on Wheelz :)

im amazed ive only seen 1 person mention Slayer. I know they are hit or miss with alot of people, but they have one of the most/instantly recognized metal/thrash tones. Even people who hate metal can pick Slayer out.

So ill say

Hanneman/King
Gary Holt
Mustaine/Friedman
Hetfield/Hammet (RTL/puppets)
Rocky-- Suicidal Tendancies

and just to throw an underdog in there. Joey Z's tone, from Life of Agony's first album River Runs Red, is just plain fucking vicious

also lets not forget Maiden

They have AWESOME guitar tones! In fact I think their recent tones are better than their studio recordings from the 1980s. The 80s tones didn't have enough crunch. Now the tones are crunchy and so full & rich.

Even YouTube can't wreck their awesomeness!

Now, contrary to what I just said- none of Iron Maiden's guitar tones sound instantly "thrashy" to me. They can be used for thrash, but it's not punky enough...

This........dirty but still articulate. Love me some Rocky George.
