Why people hate Nickelback ?

Listening to some live and acoustic performances, I would say they are a pretty damn good band. In key, in time, harmonies, and good songwriters.

I can totally understand when people find them a tad bland though. However, I know plenty of people who love them. And I get it. Catchy songs (it's not as easy to write as one thinks), big productions, and some cool riffs.

They are also quite business oriented, but seeing as they are in the music business, I am gonna call that a sound move.

Well, I have respect for them anyway. They have obviously worked hard, and they have built something big. A lot of kids today could use a big serving of that ambition and dedication to perfect something. Whether that be pop-rock, country, hip hop, architecture, whatever.

Anyway... It's been a while. How are y'all doin'? I took a hiatus with a very Diva-like goodbye thread... Thought it would only be appropriate to re-enter in a Nickelback thread.

Things are good for me kasperjensen...:)

My favorite thing about NB is how it has brought us all together..... not every band can do this on rig whatever it is called...

That's easy. It's because Nickelback sounds like contrived, soullessly manufactured, pop rock-ish drivel.
You've basically described the corporate music industry and pretty much any big business that wants to sell more derivative product because it's easier to further what's established rather than starting from scratch by promoting, exploring new/original/different ideas and thereby taking financial "risks" (as the execs call it), the shareholders want their cut!

Huh. Either you're an executive in the industry or have no creative or original aspirations as a musician.

I create and record original music that I enjoy regardless of what others think. If people pay me to listen to it, that's great. If not, I can die knowing I did "my own thing". Within the next couple of months, a friend of mine and I are going to have at least 14 original songs that we release. Neither one of us would have tried to write songs that pander to the masses. We tried to write songs that are enjoyable to listen to, even if they don't sound exactly like EVERYONE ELSE. I'm so glad that our songs have their own character and identity!

My main source of musical "income" (of course, I do have to keep a day job) is performing covers. But, even my cover band that gigs regularly has the good taste to not play that kind of tripe and we still make money!

I don't care if you're into being a corporate stooge. Enjoy that.

I firmly believe there are ways to be creative and have fun with music that don't involve being a completely soulless automaton. I would enjoy being a musician full time, but I am really "okay" with toiling in relative obscurity if it means I get to do it on MY own terms. If you're worried about shareholders, you probably should get out of playing music. Odds are very high that there are other widgets to hock that'll make you a lot more dough.

I like Nickelback. I think the riffs are pretty good and they write a pretty good hook. The only thing is the lyrics are pretty uninspiring and childish.

This is exactly how I feel about Foo Fighters.

Ah yes Foo Fighters......another great band.

Katy Perry would be a guilty pleasure, just sayin.... Not TickleCrack.

I LOVE Def Leppard and their Rock of Ages 2 CD set. I saw them after Journey opened about 6 years ago at Jones Beach and they killed it. Journey sounded terrible. It was like they weren't loud enough for the venue. I saw "Journey" again two years later after Heart and Cheap Trick opened they were so much better than the first time. To me Nickleback isn't on the same planet as Def Leppard.

I think the Beatles were better than NIckleback.....just sayin

You've misunderstood me completely, was it the lack of a big smiley at the end of my comment? My comment was an attempt at poking fun of the corporate big business mentality and how they force onto the public what they want to sell. I am not in the music industry or in any way associated with it, I just doodle loudly on the guitar strictly as a hobby for my own enjoyment. I work in a cubicle for a living but that doesn't make me corporate just because I see the business angle of the music industry. But overreacting aside I do like your response because you're passionate about being creative and doing your own thing musically, and that was my point, the new and different are overshadowed by big business making it more difficult for lesser known artists to get recognized. Take this at face value, I do not support rehashing of the same ol' formula just because it sells... I like innovation and creativity.

If Elvis Presley was the singer of Nickelback it would be pretty decent....
Maybe Michael Jackson....
...Just saying....

I'm trying to picture Elvis or MJ trying to sing "Burn it to the Ground", just isn't happening! Sure would be funny to see them try though!

I guess I'm just not in the mood to be nice tonight... These are some of the stupidest thoughts I've read in a long time. Yet another person that thinks taste is objective, that they have all the right answers and that everyone else is somehow failing to see that 2+2=4.

I'll just apologize now because I may feel sorry for being so blunt after i wake up tomorrow but the narrow minded musician is wearing thin on me lately.

On a positive note, Gary Hoey put on a great show tonight.

nordnarb25 is a clever, honest person, with a cool modern, sober view, self confident, not corny senseless "proud".

As we call it in Germany he has a "ass in his trousers" IMHO this is the starting point to make good, kitsch free music, learn from it, very simple, no diddly diddly doo necessary.....thank you

This will even attract modern, stylish women (mostly with way better income), i.e. you can afford more free time, gear, guitar playing, sometimes a typical cool marriage, for example kate moss with the kills sound nerd jamie hince.

Do not make it diddl diddly doo pretentious, make it real....simple!

Good gosh guys......the man just gave his "subjective" opinion. He made no claims that he has scientific support of his opinion, thus making any of it "objective." I dont happen to agree with Nodnard25, but a lot of people share different opinions than me and his is just another example. A lot of people will share different opinions than you in life. Just roll with it and move on just like I am going to do..........see, watch.

Pink & her guitarist slay Nicklewhack as well !!!
