Not like I'm defending Peavey in any way, don't know enough of the specifics.... but has anyone here owned a business? Especially one that is international? Had major competition where everything is made overseas? Ever ask yourself why all those jobs are going overseas? Ask yourself why those automaker jobs are leaving the country from the big 3 yet other makers all have new plants in the south with happy well paid employees? Wonder why our students graduate knowing very little about anything? Why there are no young people in significant numbers in the trades? Why do you think all these jobs have left the country? Could part of it be we demand the highest wages, poorer production, highest tax rates on businesses with the highest levels of regulations in the world? Nah....just those greedy bastards at the top right?

I work for a company who sells printing presses built in japan. We can't find techs for our machines (they make six figures). All our guys are 50 or older, no one young and willing to learn the trade to make $100K+? My brother can't find anyone to work in his body shop who doesn't want $30/hr just to detail cars when the body work is done. $30/hr to detail cars? WTF? A ton of all of this is our own fault. But yeah, it's just those greedy fuckers at the top. Who BTW risked everything to build those companies, who's homes were on the line and if they failed they would have failed big. Everything built here costs a small fortune. Ever ask yourself why???? Yeah, didn't think so. Saying greed is the basis for all of this is stupid and ignorant. Sometimes yes but this is a nationwide problem and you see this every day so we better start getting real about the actual causes. You do know Peavey has competition and has to stay able to compete? This greedy business owner stuff is getting really old. It's bullshit and you better wake up soon or you too will be unable to find a job.

But in 2012 Hartley gave this interview. My how things reverse in a couple years............GREED.
http://peavey.com/news/index.cfm/id/629 ... ey%20Named

"Peavey attributes the continuing success of Peavey Electronics to the hard work, determination and enthusiasm of its employees, who work in an environment uncommon to most large corporations—one in which there are no suits or ties and no “Misters,” but instead a creative, passionate dynamic that fosters growth and technological advancement.

“Peavey is a place where people can grow,” said Peavey. “When I was younger, there was no place for me to grow—that’s why I started Peavey Electronics. We’re fortunate to have been able to give that same opportunity to more than 14,000 employees in Meridian through the years, and that means a lot to me. I want our young folks to realize that they can make it if they try.”"

So does it mean same components in the amp, just assembled overseas, or does it mean this? I'll give them credit, they held out for a while.
So who's left in the USA as far as the bigger names of amp companies, Mesa Boogie?

Bugera_6262_120W_photo_1.jpg

I am guessing that Peavey will be no better....no worse then Bugera if their amps are coming out of China.
They already said they cant find good help in the USA so I assume this is the same in their quality control.

WTF?

Article just updated.

The Clarion-Ledger has confirmed Peavey Electronics is not closing additional plants in Mississippi, despite media reports saying the company was moving manufacturing operations overseas.

Nothing to see here, move along.

You know what.. You make fair points.

It's time we pull our heads out of our asses, guys.

This is the only real way to go anymore these days and it's high time we get with the program.

Only thing we'll have left to "ask ourselves" is how we'll get to sleep at night.

So what's your point exactly?

That with my stupid and ignorant mindset in America, the land of entitlement, I guess I'll just never be cut out for the CEO types knowing that people live and die in conditions like that in the name of profit.

Davey Jones, I do not know you and this is not an attack on you or anyone. I work at a fortune 500 global company. I speak to the CFO regularly. The American government gives massive tax incentives to companies that "expand" overseas, including my company. Where my office is located used to be 3 shifts at 4-5,000 per shift. The building is empty. Why? Read the regulations the city of Milwaukee places on a business, it will scare you. The environmental regulations are crazy. The tax rate is in the top 10 in the nation. My company has buildings on 2 sides of a street with a walk way over the top of the street connecting them. We pay a special tax for the walkway because it goes over the street. Nobody wants dirty air and water but right now all we have done is ship the dirty air, water, and jobs to Asia.

If our American government encouraged and subsidized business like the rest of the world does, we'd kick ass. Yeah, the rich will get richer but if there were manufacturing jobs like there used to be, the labor rater would go up and unemployment would go down. This is the key, our government needs to put us first. No offense to anyone in another country but I want the USA to be the best again. We just need help from uncle Sam.
The laws of supply and demand still exist. Right now in Milwaukee, a 5-6 year Unix/Linux admin can get contract work at $85-90 per hour with a 6-12 month contract. There is a massive IT shortage right now in Milwaukee and rates are going up and up.

The government can do nothing without our money. All tax revenue is paid for by the citizens, business never pays taxes, they pass it down. Think about Ford, you buy a new Ford you pay ALL taxes needed to make the car, including Ford's portion it pays for each employee. Yup, that is calculated and added to the cost of the car. Same with everything else you buy.

America needs to wake up and take the government back from the politicians, unfortunately most people cannot process advanced thought and will never understand.

First, thanks for taking the time to lay it out from a very involved perspective. I appreciate that.

Yours too, RG955TT. I'm just not keen on getting around your approach of laying it down and have to take a step back. Which is ironic, because I have a similar approach to addressing certain things.

Second...

I concur.

It is ugly.....on both sides of the fence. For the business owner and the consumer.

Things seriously need to change or this country is really headed for economic trouble that makes what we have now look like playtime. The playing field is so tilted against US manufacturing its ridiculous...for a lot of reasons...taxes, manufacturing costs, materials, overhead, payroll, insurance, eco regs, worker regs, and on and on. I feel bad about Peavey sort of, I mean c'mon for a lot of us it was a first amp and they made affordable stuff that you could really use to play when starting out (maybe sounded like crap but was reliable and LOUD enough to really use in a band). There was little competition in those days especially from overseas....they were the defacto starter amp back in the day for a ton if us and c'mon, 5150 and EVH guitars were standouts for their time. Can't say they didn't try to give us bang for the buck at least some years ago. I know everyone wants to crap on them now but 50 years and 180 patents...hardly say the dude didn't give it his best shot at over the years on balance. World is different now, business world is way different....and not better for us in the US.

Yup............my first "REAL" guitar was the Vandenberg. Red....it was bad to the bone.
I always got a soft spot for Peavey. And Backstage plus my first real amp.

Bought a used Peavey Musician with matching huge 4x12 as my first....distortion was terrible, marbles in a tin can, but it was loud as hell and had a good clean so with a Ross distortion I rocked out at the time. Looked pretty badass too..

Yeah I hated the PV distortion. I played a DOD American Metal FX -56 thru it.
Thought I was god.

Bandit 65. First amp. dod distortion helped a little.

I gotta call bullshit on that. I was in collision repair for over 20 years, as an "A" tech with certifications. I was the guy fixing the cars that looked like they got hit by a train, and me or my coworkers never made near $30/hr. The guys detailing cars made Maybe 10 bucks an hour. Your brother is exaggerating.

Read what I said, the guys WANT $30/hr. Obviously he can't and won't pay them that

Anecdotal stories about car washers demanding 30 dollars an hour aside, has anyone acutally studied the loss of U.S. manufacturing from an academic point of view? Does anyone know the current corporate income tax rate? How that tax rate works with foreign tax rates? What specifically changed in the tax code over the last 28yrs with regard to loopholes? How does "deferrment" work for US transnationals? Have profits increased for US transnationals that have gone overseas? Where have those profits gone, to the workers? CEO's? The problem is systemic and complicated... and has gone on since 2000. Everyone with an interest should do research and look objectively at all sides to form an opinion.
