Nobody should think or care about things that impact their life, nothing to see here, keep being a good little consumer and just buy whatever is in the store that day and don't think about it any further.

I don't care about Rhett but I'm glad people are dogpiling on the Fender CEO for being a lying asshole. He is completely full of shit and if Fender gets their way it's going to make your life (yes I'm talking to you) worse in some way or another.

I'd like to see Fender get legal ownership of the Strat body shape, because reasons; not the least of which is the resulting whining, sniveling, "weeping and gnashing of teeth" meltdowns which promise to be epic.

Even if it's eventually overturned later.

Why stop there bro? I'd like to see Fender obtain legal ownership of "the guitar" as a concept and see every other guitar maker on the planet forced into shutting their doors and going out of business, you know, for the lols, because doing arbitrary things to hurt other people for no reason or benefit is, for some reason, so important to me that I'm willing to let myself be hurt in the process, because it's worth it.

You see how that sounds, right?

I mean I get we're all being hyperbolic but the Fender CEO really is being an unreasonable piece of shit, and he is absolutely lying to all of us, including you, and treating you like an idiot who is too dumb to see it. That alone should be enough to make anybody think twice about buying from that company.

People selling Strat style guitars for 5-7k should be sued for taking advantage of idiots.

Not quite, but Tele and offset body design ownership would be sweet too!

It's not arbitrary. Fender invented, designed, created the Telecaster, Stratocaster and Jazzmaster/Jaguar body shapes. That's fact. They should have owned these shapes from the beginning. Just because they've become commonplace body designs with many derivatives doesn't change the original source of these body designs.

What's unfortunate is that patents and trademarks didn't protect Fender's original body designs allowing the copy industry to flourish for decades unabated. I don't think Fender ownership of these body designs should be retroactive for guitars already made; but they should own these body designs going forward.

Again, they're Fender's original body designs. These designs have been copied without compensation to the creator. That's wrong IMO.

If someone made a copy of a Ford Mustang; just called its something else, even built it better and faster, charged more for it, but it still looked very much like a Ford Mustang to most people, etc., if people couldn't see the badging (e.g. headstock or inlays) and would guess it's a Ford Mustang; should Ford just ignore it?
