I agree with you guys that Fender 'should' have done more to protect their design if it was so important to them. They didn't. So that's that.
The people that are creating outright Strat copies should be shut down some how. But Fender shouldn't be allowed to take any claim on the "S" shape. That's a stretch imo.

This doesn't gel with free market or capitalism in general. The whole idea of a patent expiring is that you can only profit exclusively for 20 years.
Imagine how much emptier and less evolved the world would be if companies could patent their designs to infinity.
Because with an exclusive infinite patent, it means that Fender can be the sole producer of S-shaped bodies and continue to cut corners on quality to save some $$ and line their pockets and no one can legally come up with a better alternative...
And aside from some whackjobs here and there who seem to equal current-built US Strat quality with pre-CBS stuff, we all know what happened to the quality. The thing is, Fender rightfully lost market share because of this. If Fender remained the #1 highest quality built Strats with the options that people wanted -for a decent price-, then their competitors would be nowhere. Part of this is that the Fender name appeals to folks. But yeah, as time progresses, some guitar players now think 'F that, I'm not paying x amount for this lowered level of quality just because they made an invention 70+ years ago, when I can buy so-and-so alternative with a higher level of quality for a similar amount. Sure, it doesn't come with the Fender name on it, but I'm looking for actual quality, not empty legacy'. And that's their frickin' good right!

Holy shit, you guys are all right, I just went and looked at the first video on every geartuber channel and they all said it; “Hey everyone, I’m a nobody but I feel my opinion is so important I had to make a Yotube channel that WE HAVE TO DISCUSS!”

Some guys looked at youtube and said “Ya know, I can keep posting my opinions no one asked for on RigTalk, TGP or TGF and not get paid like everyone else, or I can take that same opinion and say it into a camera and slap it on Youtube and potentially create another revenue stream for myself. There’s no guarantee it’ll be successful, but surely I will feel better about myself in the long run if I apply myself rather than sitting around and bitching about other people who apply themselves while I don’t”
Someone should have warned all those losers that their plan was without merit and all the awesome gear, opportunity and financial stability they’ve brought into their lives as a result of their efforts holds no weight, they would have gotten far more respect just posting their opinions no one asked for about geartubers on forums.

Just like the rest of the music industry. You don't need to be talented, just popular. Unless you are teaching technique, you don't need it. Most metalheads tune into amp demos to hear how the palm muted open notes sound. Anything else is a bonus.
If they were any good at playing or writing music, they wouldn't be YouTubers. Glen Fricker is the perfect example of that. What the fuck has he ever done? His albums aren't winning Grammys. He's not on the radio. He's just some fat Canadian yelling at people through the internet. Why would I give a single flying fuck about his opinion of heavy guitars?
