Santana enjoyers thread

We played this one last night at band practice.

Awesome. Glad to see this. That is one of his finest tunes. I learned the head a while back but still need to get the solo section down. I wouldn't mind integrating one into my blues set just because it varies things up and is an instrumental which gives me a little vocal break. I recall a time when pretty much every blues and blues-rock band covered Europa but I haven't heard anyone do it since the early or mid 90's. Man times have changed.

Some interesting facts about "Supernatural"
  • Record-Breaking Success: The album won nine Grammy Awards in 2000, including Album of the Year, which at the time broke the record for the most Grammys won by a single album in one night.
  • Massive Sales: It has sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide and is certified 15× Platinum in the U.S..
According to google the biggest selling record by a hispanic artist of all time. Pretty amazing for a dude with his guitar.
It was so smart for him and humbling to do that. Shows how open minded he is.

Seemed to work out. Was also something half decent on FM radio when it was in a pretty serious decline.
I was listening to some Santana while on the treadmill yesterday and those early 80s albums had that rock sound I was talking about. I recognized a few songs from my childhood. Great playing in this one:

Man these are such great tracks. His guitar is so expressive and joyful. Hope everyone is well tonight.

@stephen sawall how are your Santana chops coming along bro?

Where I grew up my first introduction to a real pro level guitarist was a guy who lived about a block down the street. He had a Mesa Mk 1 he had special ordered before they were widely distributed and a USA BC Rich mockingbird. The guy was a Santana nut and had all the records even the one with McLaughlin. If I played the Oye Como Va chords he would unleash an inner Carlos for 30 minutes solid without even repeating himself and then bust out laughing when it was over, lol.

Anyways, I have been a Santana fan ever since and even like his commercial stuff. I been on a listening kick lately so I figured I'd toss this thread up. I still debate which era of tone is his best but truthfully, they are all pretty great. Hopefully I'm not alone here. I'll kick it off with this beauty:

When I was a kid in the early 70's my mom played the Abraxas album A LOT. I still love that record.

"Hope you're feeling better" from Abraxas is a banger!

Once again I find myself in agreement with you Mr. Gtar. That's a classic album right there!!!

I added a link to that song in that post.
:)
That was the first Santana album I had, followed by Live at the Fillmore in '68 I think. He ditched a couple less serious band members and the result was a better band than the Fillmore appearance. It's def noticeable IMO. I don't think Shrieve was in the band at the Fillmore performance, that dude was a monster for such a young guy.

I didn't know that there's a "Live at the Fillmore in '68" album! Mike Shrieve was amazing.

Never been a fan really. Just not my thing. However I hearf an amazing cover of one of his tunes that was freaking amazing. IMHO… fuckin typonegative…

So if you was gonna buy one amp for Santana tone, and already have a Twin, what amp?

I been looking at some Mesa MkII series and every knob says pull bright or pull shit or pull lead or gain boots above it. That seems like something that would be complicated....
