Several years ago my Mom got me Santana's autobiography and I loved it and found out he is that authentic guy. I need to listen to more of his stuff but obviously love the old hits and I thought that album he did with famous singers was amazing.
Supernatural? Yeah, I'm with you.

Some interesting facts about "Supernatural"
  • Record-Breaking Success: The album won nine Grammy Awards in 2000, including Album of the Year, which at the time broke the record for the most Grammys won by a single album in one night.
  • Massive Sales: It has sold an estimated 30 million copies worldwide and is certified 15× Platinum in the U.S..
According to google the biggest selling record by a hispanic artist of all time. Pretty amazing for a dude with his guitar.

I was lucky enough to have an older brother that had great taste in music.

Santana, Stones, Traffic, all the classics all the time.

This is my personal fave off the Supernatural album.

Hearing Santana reminds me of a childhood friend who died several years ago. He was big into Santana. He didn't play any instruments but was a big audiophile - had an amazing stereo system that he built for years adding and replacing components, everything played on it sounded great; he sometimes make cassette tapes for us that sounded better than the label's tapes which were cheap quality. We'd use some high-end blank cassette tapes that he insisted were the best....memories.

he should have been in that Maxell tape advert, we used to bust his ass calling him Max or Maxell.

Sounds like a fun guy. Some of the big band Santana stuff would be great to hear on a top quality system. My cheap studio monitors tends to mush everything together when there is a lot of instrumentation.

I have a good friend who was a solid bro country listener for years. He told me he bought some kind of big Klipsch system that was built for a movie theater. I asked him if he just planned on listening to his shitty bro country on a nice system. Apparently he became an audiophile because he told me he had 3,000 records....jazz, blues, rock, classic country, classical. I asked him to name some of the blues titles he had and he reeled off a bunch of old time stuff. I couldn't believe it, the dude actually has some taste in decent music now LOL.

stayed up late to watch this when i saw the names in TV Guide🤣
I love me some Benson, especially "Affirmation". How are you this evening mentoneman? Fair winds off the Pacific this evening? You or anyone else have a favorite era for Santana tone? This one sound particularly nice to me, not sure what rig it is.

we are actually anticipating a dreadful storm and flooding across the state in the next 24-48 hrs and the gov has closed state offices and schools in anticipation.
may not be firing up the rig much out of the abundance of caution…

this thread reminded me of a band that used to play at our church called Two or More and the lead gtr player was also in a Santana tribute band. he rocked a PRS and a Bogner/Hafler Triple Giant rack and was really a cool dude:

(go to 2:48 for the solo)

the lead singer Renatto (who loved Steve Perry), acoustic gtr player Eddie, and drummer Walter are brothers and had great natural vocal harmonies. love their rendition of the Lord’s Prayer

Reminds me of one of my all time favorite Santana tunes. The Christian band Masada does a great cover of this one also:
starts at about :25 seconds

Masada:

My fav Santana moment is when he and his wife played the national anthem at an NBA game once. Epic
