Does someone own or played the new Triple Recto Reissue and have some good quality clips of it?
Everything you find on YouTube is not that good.

@Sixstringflannel has one. Probably no clips, but he's good with words and he's also played my reissue dual. He can probably help some.

Thank your very much.
I’ve had already the opportunity to play the Dual Ri. But the Triple might be a different beast. That’s why I’m asking.

Couple guys I trust say it’s tighter, more scooped and has better clarity, which is usually the case with higher wattage amps.

I’ve had two of the new triples. The first one had a significant issue and was B stock and the second was brand new and essentially perfect.

It’s tighter for sure but not by much. Maybe a bit more scooped but there’s enough mids to throw in there and the mid knob on both is really great. I can’t say if it’s better or not though. It’s not worse that’s for sure.

I don’t come from a background of experience with Mesa at all and this was my first. I really love it though and am surprised by how much versatility it has with switching and power tube options. I have a Helios 100 and a 5150 sig for reference and the triple is extremely fast which is satisfying, but as fast as I play is Tremonti stuff or Lamb of God, otherwise I’m in Cantrell / Adam Jones territory. I can cover all of that ground on it very well and to my surprise. I’ve had quite a bit of genuine stank face moments than I have on the other amps.

To me the dual and triples are kings of rhythm. Not that it can’t do solos, it very well can, and you can massage it with an EQ or a boost to do it extremely well. My Helios just naturally excels for soloing. Honestly you can’t go wrong with either, it’s going to depend on if you want that extra headroom and tightness and maybe “wideness”. It’s not going to be leagues different from the dual though, so I would levelset there.

@ilikehats and I will get the girls together to see what the differences are and we have some plans to analyze the circuits as well.

Full disclosure is that I play through a Suhr RL into IR’s so most testing is repeatable and stable. One of my favorite things about these is the manual and it’s chock full of great information and easily digested.

Again my advice is that you can’t go wrong with either. I bought the triple primarily fir vanity purposes which only serves my ego.

Got a Triple Reissue Blackface for circa 1k under regular Price/MSRP. You just cant say no for that Price.
Im very curious…and will Report.
Learning by doing we say in Germany..
Just make sure that all the tubes are socketed in place when you get it and that they are bolted down correctly. If you got it for that cheap, I would assume B-stock or demo model, and I went through a headache with that but luckily the vendor went above and beyond to replace it with a new one. Always a good practice when having any amp shipped to you regardless, and you may already do this. Have fun!

I have both the Dual and Triple 90’s RI’s.

To my ear, the preamps are the same between both amps. The Triple doesn’t sound like it’s been dialed to have a tighter preamp than the Dual. But, the Triple’s higher wattage poweramp means it’s going to be tighter overall at equivalent volume and therefore wider because the first thing that happens when a power section starts to clip is bandwidth constriction for a handful of reasons.

As for whether the Triple’s power section is more scooped than the Dual’s, I’m not sure how or if a cab’s impedance curve would impact the power sections differently, if the amps have different damping factors, etc. That could be an interesting (nerdy) thing to measure if anybody has the tools to do it.

I guess it could be a demo unit. But it wasn’t listed as such. 🤷‍♂️
It’s from one of our biggest Musicstores here in Germany / Kinda like Thomann, or GC.
And I’ve heard that they are parting with mesa completely. Could be possible that they just wanna get rid off al the mesa stuff.

I’m gonna pick it up tomorrow and check everything or let them check it before I pay.
Thanks for the heads up!

Edit: Checked the listing. No b stock.
But they are selling every mesa amp with a biiiig discount. We are talking 500-900 Euro less. Kinda really looks like they’re getting rid of all the mesa stuff.

picked it up today. New unit.
Currently quite shocked, because it sounds like a blanked over it. Have to crank treble and presence like crazy/dime it. To get a bright enough sound.
Not sure if it might be faulty…

That's consistent with how my dual is on the orange channel. I run the presence at Max or just under to get it bright enough. I don't think that's faulty, just the way the orange circuit is voiced.

Yep. Orange channel. I have my presence maxed. Won’t be the same story on the red channel. Dial it in with your ears not your eyes and you will be rewarded.

Not my experience at all. The Triple I played was dark and rather lifeless. The Dual is noticeably different. The Triple I played could have had a problem though, who knows.

I followed your thread pretty closely before pulling the trigger. Having played both I think there might have been an issue but I’ll get them side by side again. I will say with my B stock / Demo one I had, there was a significant issue with the tube seating and it looked overall beat up tube wise when I pulled them (which was another concern) and whatever else could have been wrong with it I don’t know. It did sound like crap though. Was not the case with a brand new one. I know you know your way around amps pretty well so it carried a lot of weight with me, but in my experience with both they were extremely similar. Now, I still have to get @ilikehats side by side and iron out memory vs reality.

So..I did go full dimebag now. pres/treble almost maxed. Slapped a dirty tree and/or a Fortin grind in front. And a EQ in the loop.
Definitely better now. But as others said, orange is darker than red. Going with orange in modern helped tho.
Modern red still needed help.
Did also the presence trick.

I play through a mesa 412 OS with 2000s V30. Might try it with a ENGL OS and some brighter speakers. Like hesu demons. Or 16ohm V30.

I also had the Dual RI (had to return it) and it definitely presented itself more midrangey. This could explain why it sounded a tad brighter. But it wasn’t worlds. Like Rev F to G ish. A different Speaker would make way more of a difference for sure.

I gonna sleep a few night over it.
Because the basis is there. It plays wonderful. Better than my triple rev f. Is tight like hell. Aaand the cleans are actually kinda nice.

Definitely give it some time. I picked up a RI Dual last weekend and have been really enjoying it. I also noticed a bit of the “blanket” thing going on on Orange / Vintage, but really enjoyed Red / Vintage. Just tonight swapped both channels to Modern. Only got to play for a short time today, but Orange is now way more present. Red too, but the difference was more obvious on Orange for sure. Would quite like an Orange / Modern, Red / Vintage option… I’ve also had a high number of stank faces with this amp already - having a lot of fun with it.

STANK FACE yessir. this amp does that to you.

"The amp came loaded with Mesa branded JJs in both the preamp and power amp. I think it’s safe to say the amp was designed with those tubes in mind. Mesa has slightly tweaked things over the years to accommodate the tubes available, and JJs seem to what was in mind for this amp. The moment you swap tubes, it gets inherently brighter with something like the older Beijing ‘90s ECC83s."

I think changing to Chinese preamplifier tubes (Beijing or Shuguang) may solve your issue like it did for this person. Change the first few preamplifier tubes like V1 and V2 and see if you're successful.

Thank you so much. I’ve also thought about that after trying a different cab.” As the next step. The Rev F I’ve had back then was from Richard Kruspe - Rammstein. And it hat a completely different preamp tube set in it. Lucky me that I’ve made some notations before I’ve sold it. If I remember correctly I’ve were some Russian ones…
That might be a good starting point.
